I got the word from my best source.  Killington is blowing snow.  (10/16) and several of my "crazier than me" friends are going up to earn some turns tomorrow.  Long walk for a few hundred vertical!

My friends are hiking up to Rime tomorrow AM.  They didn't mention Superstar.

I meant to ask if they were blowing on both.

You ski because even if you don't do it well, it's still a blast....

Any snowmaking over the next week is either a test, or a mistake.

I like the use of the word mistake here.

You don't turn on that many guns as just a test.  I have photos which I will post later of my friends skiing there today.

Yes, you do. There are people in these forums that work in Operations for ski areas, who talk to other ski areas. You picking up what I'm laying down yet?

It was a test/green run/trial whatever you want to call it. The point of which is two fold: it serves as good marketing, and it is an integrated test of both men and equipment prior to production. You charge your water to full pressure, you run your air, and your staff gets back in the groove and the green horns get to see what it's about prior to getting in the hot seat. If there are equipment issues they can get fixed now and not when you really need it all working.

All ski areas do this, some just make it more public and do it far earlier. K, SR, etc.

I agree Newpylong, it's all good news to me! Of course I can remember when there was little or NO SNOWMAKING. And little of what you'd call grooming. BRING IT ON!!!!

Here is a photo of a couple of my friends on Rime this AM (10/17/2017).

I would say that's mildly hardcore. From first blow of snow to hitting the late season patches, it's Northeast ski season.

The people in this photo all ski over 5 million vertical per season.  If any of you participate in "Snow Trace", one of the three was last year's #1 in the world.

Assuming forecast remains true - they won't shut down today if possible, they will run until tomorrow. They are operating in the low to mid marginal range now if humidity remains as is temps can still come up a few degrees. After that next attempt is Sat PM when temps begin to come back down.

They do not foresee being able to lay down enough this week to open but will make the call tomorrow. Winds are gusting to 30 mph in the Glades normally that is beyond that you would bother running in.

I checked kzone and the guy who said it was not is a rumor is named "anonymous".  Nevertheless: I hope "anonymous" is right.

K pulled the plug. Not enough snow low on Rime. Good effort.

Yup, that was my worry. Very elevation dependent. Unless they get lucky with cold this weekend (which has been weakening on the models) they will need to wait until later next week. But that's a long ways off....

If true, that means Killington will be open probably on Thurs. - but definitely on Friday!
