Whitecap Mtn Wisconsin "One of the Most bizarre chairlifts in the Western Hemisphere "

Wife and I stayed at Whitecap ski area on way back
from a counterclockwise Lk Superior circle tour. We had put a substantial deposit on a trip here and Bohemia last winter and they allowed us to use that. Talk about feeling like your on the Shining. 3 other people staying. We played the golf course which is integrated in the ski hill. Unfortunately the 82 yr old owner can't sell the place for $ 2 million. He was running around on the golf cart working his butt off.The course built in 2001 was in absolutely horrible shape. I think the ski trails were mowed better than the course. Visually it was spectacular looking at the Apostle Islands and Lk Superior and all these trails going hither and yon in all 360 aspects. This place was right out of the '70s stuck in a time warp. So eerie but so retro old school cool. Unless it has a cash infusion the golf course will be lost. The gal said they were separately owned but I don't know how.

Of course I enjoyed looking at the Hall chairlifts which contained according to Skiernet/ Gondyline/ Skibum "one of the most bizarre chairlifts in the Western Hemisphere ".

Look how high this 1971sucker is off the ground with no safety bar, 4300' Hall double with a unloading station.image

Thanks for sharing, I've always wanted to see good photos of that lift. I think the tower is lattice because of the height.

Ok I see there is an additional unloading station at what they call the top of Eagles nest mtn for those that want the expert stuff. Then there is the lattice tower in between Thunderhead mtn ( true summit)

It looks like you can get on at both ends

This pic you can see the midway unloading which is what they call top of Eagles nest

Are there any Midwest lifts longer than 4300'

Yea didn't understand it until I saw it with my own eyes. The Eaglesnest is not the true
summit just a mid way unloading from
    Thunderhead.
When you get to the bottom of Thunderhead ( By Kilamajaro trail )you take the same lift up.
It is cool and I wish I got to ski it with all trails open.
We only played the front nine and the back 9 is an executive course on 2000 yards or so. The wife had enough . I couldn't or didn't get down to the bottom of this lift at Eagles nest to see the double black stuff.

So surprised this chair didn't come with safety bars. To fall from the height of the lattice tower would mean certain death.
