Mt Holly, Mi 12/28/17

edited December 2017 in Trip Reports
I haven’t been to Mt Holly for a couple of years and it is where my now 23 year old daughter learned to Ski when she was 5. So we decided to brave the cold and go. It was 11 degrees but no wind. We got there around 2:30ish and we were on the hill by 2:50. Most of the snow was man made, but I had forgotten how nice of a product they make. It was pack powder from side to side on all the runs we skied. We did 1-1/12 sessions then we would go in and warm up. We skied to around 9 and headed home. After being used to driving by 3 hours to get to Caberfae Peaks the 1 hour drive to Mt Holly seemed like nothing.
Mt Holly is the biggest of the 4 metro Detroit ski areas with a 350’ vertical drop (I would say more like 300’. I think they measure from the lowest point on the property to the highest) and a great snowmaking system (first to be 100% open in Mi) they do a lot with what they have to work with. It was a great day/night of skiing with my kid. Life is good right imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage
They also have a nice patio and fire pit image

And just for Bob his favorite kind of chair being repurposed imageimage

  • Very nice Ted
2 things I believe Holly and Bittersweet ( Same ownership) are the only 2 to have high speed quads in southern mich

Yes your daughter is your kid but moving or moved from a fine young lady to a beautiful woman whom her papa can be proud of . ( both pretty and a pretty darned good skier)

Wait until she bears you your first grandchild some day....you get to teach or take him or her with you skiing⛷⛷⛷

Excellent report and thanks for the cathedral gothic Hall pics
  • Only in the Midwest will an area of that size have a HSQ ;))
Looks like there is plenty of snow there, thanks for sharing

They have two lifts with Ribblet chairs with what look like Hall towers

With a high speed lift and a small hill you can rack up some serious vertical in one day
  • Nice pictures! Interesting chairs in the lodge.

What do you mean interesting? The Hall gothic cathedral is the best looking chair of all time!

Verify, was Holly originallly a garbage dump, i.e. Mounty Trashmore?

No Mt Holly was never a garbage dump. The hill in that pic is natural. Everything above that point is man made. If we ever go there I can show many different places that they dug out and used the dirt to build up the hill. As far as I know only one hill in South East Mi was a landfill and it is now closed. That was Riverside Hiighlands.
  • At least I'm not the only one w insomnia
Well went to bed at 8
Drive to Detroit burnt me out

I know we had a thread on garbage dump ski hills on sj1
