King Pine 2/19/2018

Today was a beautiful bluebird day at King Pine. It was mostly sunny and temperatures were in the 30s and 40s. All trails were open and the new snow made a good surface to ski on. Everything was groomed, except Pitch Pine and Pine Brule. Snow was thin in the woods and two out of three grades were not worth skiing. However the glades have been greatly expanded in the past few years and they look like they'd be a lot of fun with more snow. It was quite busy and lift lines often were 5 minutes or more, but the lines could be mostly avoided if you worked the lifts correctly. It was an excellent day and the snow held up well, even with the crowds.

  • King Pine, with its heartwarming 350 vertical feet, is a place I gotta ski.

When I was on a quest to ski as many areas as possible, I hit King Pine and found that it skis bigger than its size.  So many good places to ski; so little time to do so!
  • Can King Pine go any higher than the summit of its lifts? Not sure the topography of the area.

No, the lifts go to the top of the hill.

  • Not unless they expand across E. Madison Rd.
  • King Pine will always have a special place in my heart !!!!! It was there back in 1970; The first ski area I ever went to...I have been hooked ever since !!!! Thank you for the report....I remember that day in 1970 like it was yesterday...I have tears in my eyes as I type this !!!!  THANKS DAD !!!!!  LOVE YOU AND LOVE YOU KING PINE !!!!

  • Beautiful pictures!
  • After knee surgery 12/1, I looked at smaller areas for my first day back. Jan. __ was Founders' Day $5. It was a great day and great conditions. They left one of the steep trails ungroomed. It was PP moguls and just ungroomed. They do all they can with the hill they have. It is a very nice small area.
  • Nice looking ski area. I love skiing under the pines
