There was a little bit of both winter and spring today at Mount Abram. When the lifts opened at 9:00, there was 4-6 inches of fresh powder on top of a hardpacked, but not icy base. The first few runs were simply amazing, the new snow was very dry and the snow blew everywhere. It was impossible to do a run without getting covered in powder and the base underneath made it even more fun. Later in the day the sun warmed things up and the powder day turned into a bluebird day of soft spring skiing with excellent moguls and hero snow. There was a moderate crowd, but almost never a wait for the lift. Every trail was open, with the exception of the Westside, which has closed for the season. The T-bar had also closed for the season and some Ts on the uphill side had been removed to make it easier to ski the line. Some exposed trails and woods areas had very thin cover in places and caution was needed. However, there were more trails and glades with excellent cover which were fun to ski fast. Fractured Fairytails had perfect moguls and, if skied top to bottom, was quite the challenge and workout. It’s hard to believe that it’s April with the new snow and so much already on the ground, but unfortunately they will be closing tomorrow for the season.
