King Pine 5/5/2018

I was up in the area this weekend, so I decided to take a few laps at King Pine. Most trails which I saw only had small patches of snow, except East Slope. The entire length of East Slope was skiable without any breaks. One choke point on the final pitch was on its last legs, but was easily negotiable. I did three runs in soft spring snow before walking around the summit area a bit. One interesting thing which I never knew before, is that King Pine's magic carpet hill isn't the real slope of the land, it's just a large stockpile of snow and the magic carpet is a bridge (see picture below). After skiing, I climbed nearby Bald Ledge with its cabin and excellent views.

I also have fond memories of King Pine as that is where my great-aunt, Alison Rish (then ski school director), taught me how to ski.
