Caberfae Mi 2nd earliest opening day 11/17/18 Ciscokid

edited November 25 in Trip Reports
Had an excellent opening day at the 'Fae even though I was without my grandsons or my good friend Ted Reilly although we'll be there Black Friday. Mostly cloudy, light wind, and EXCELLENT manmade snow surface which I was very impressed with.

I talked to co owner Tim Meyer and also his 75 year dad Tim Sr. What impressed me was seeing Sr hike to the summit followed by Jr who said" I can't keep up with him". I also said hi to the drone operator.

Had a good discussion with ski patroller Allen who was the bearer of probable bad news for me, the Jetsonesque Skyview '68 lodge may be razed. It may be condemned if the roof leaks aren't repaired. Being a roofer by trade he told Tim to buy the materials and he would get the labor done free. Hopefully they can save it.Enjoyed Allen telling me how much fun it used to be withe Tbars and ropes on the west ridge and tournament area. He has a sister who lives in Stowe Vt area and loves the east.

Beside the excellent snow quality the biggest improvement this year was the Sunkid magic carpet. The one remaining rope tow is now history. ( at one time there were TWENTY)

Had the requisite Bloody Mary in honor of the late Arlo. Talked briefly with long term liftie TJ and saw Batman and dancing skier Corky.

Even though there was only 2-3 inches of natural there were a half dozen or so of those trails open . I skied No.1 and it was a challenge turning on some grassy exposure here and there.

My earliest ski day of my life and a great start to the season
