I’m not sure what Chuckstah is talking about. Snow has been made this week despite the pipe issue which he describes. I can never remember deeper base depths in all my dozen seasons at CM. Grooming has been exceptional - pretty much back to the way it was a few years ago. The cold weather, combined with the wet autumn have provided almost unlimited water with the park on Magnitude being extended to Upper Magnitude. (Some may remember that all of Magnitude was “park” until the Rocket was installed and they needed more water for snowmaking in the newly opened area. With no additional water, management chose to use the water they used to build mega-features on “Upper Park” to the summit area.)
Crotched used to have college racing with one or more trails shut down on weekdays for training. A normal weekday has a couple of dozen retired season-pass people in the AM and it goes pretty quiet until the PM when the school kids arrive. Mountain management would have to be crazy to turn down the revenue that the race provides.
As to the preparation of the Park (Lower Magnitude) for the weekend “Block Party”: That’s been done every year. Sad thing is that after all of the effort to set it up, the event will likely be “snowed out” tonight. The area was well marked and there was no traffic jam in the lane Chuckstah described crossing from anything east of the park.
