NewEnglandSkier13 Conditions don't get much better than they were today at Big Squaw! The entire mountain was open and the top ticket price of $30 is a great deal for the terrain offered. Ungroomed terrain had 15" of untouched powder and groomed terrain had perfect packed powder with no thin spots or ice patches in sight. The day started off sunny, but it ended up snowing for most of the afternoon. Saint John was especially fun and I got first tracks in the powder. It's a black diamond which cuts a narrow, winding path through the woods and has a good amount of character to it. The trails on the west side of the mountain are a fun maze of cruisers and short glades. Squaw skis much bigger than it's stats might suggest and they also have great food options in the lodge. They have more than your average ski area fare and prices are very reasonable, including $5 local beers.
conrad Looks great! Didn't realize they had some lower mountain glades. Thanks for making me wish I was up there!
NewEnglandSkier13 Looks great! Didn't realize they had some lower mountain glades. Thanks for making me wish I was up there! Alley Way is the only official lower mountain glade, but there are probably 5-7 other maintained, but unofficial glades areas. Many are cut as one very narrow path through the forest. They're unique and lots of fun.
ciscokid Very nice pics, like the lake.hope to see that Thompson lift opened again someday.. How long a drive Sam? Especially like the mountains in the distance past the lake in this pic
ski_it Damn...Sam!! You’re making me miss Maine so much. I’m glad you got great conditions. Great report!

Especially like the mountains in the distance past the lake in this pic I don't think the Stadeli will ever operate again unfortunately, but the new development calls for a new quad there. It's about a 2 hour drive from me and those mountains are Little and Big Spencer.

NewEnglandSkier13 Excellent report! You knock it out of the park every time. Makes me want to move there. Thank you!
yardsale Your 2 trips to big squaw this season seems like they were winners. I only skied there once back in the 1980's and conditions were not ideal as I recall. Great pictures and report.
NewEnglandSkier13 Your 2 trips to big squaw this season seems like they were winners. I only skied there once back in the 1980's and conditions were not ideal as I recall. Great pictures and report. Conditions were also pretty good when we XC skied there earlier this season. I don't think they ever had very much snowmaking, so it probably never has had great conditions when there hasn't been good natural snow.
