Our original plan was to go to Hermon, but they were closed for the day, so we ended up at Lost Valley. They had received around 6 inches of new snow, and it was wet snow, but better than expected after the rain. Both chairs and all of the snowmaking/night skiing terrain was open, except for Otter Slide and the last section of Squirrel Run. Bull Moose, Skunk, Beaver, Fisher, Porcupine, and Bear were left ungroomed and were quite fun to ski. As usual, it was quite busy on the mountain and in the lodge, but their efficient lift system kept people moving, and there was never a wait of more than a minute or two for either chairlift. Things started freezing up near the end of the night, and there were some pretty epic wipeouts when unsuspecting skiers would end up in an area of untracked snow that now had crust on it. One new feature this year is a food truck at the bottom of Chair 2, which we bought a fried dough from. Lost Valley offers a surprising variety of terrain for a smaller area, and is always a fun place to ski.
