I was over at Titcomb today to do some Nordic trail maintenance, and it looks like they're making good snowmaking progress on Bunny and Young's Way. It should only be a few more weeks until they're open!

Today was Ticomb's second day of operations this season. This season is a special one for T-Bar 2, because it turns 70 years old. It's great to see the effort they made to get open, even with the marginal weather and another rain storm on the way. T-Bar 2 and the Pony Lift were open, serving Bunny and Young's Way. Conditions were surprisingly good loose granular, and were not as firm as I expected. They stayed quite busy throughout the afternoon, and it was great to be back at our local mountain!

Yes, it's Maine's oldest lift, and is tied with Veterans Memorial's T-bar for the oldest lift in New England!

Saturday, December 30

Finally, a powder day! What was originally supposed to be a day of mixed precipitation turned out to be 4 inches of snow with no mixing at all! It was a wet and heavy snow, but it was still great to finally be able to ski on some new snow. Bunny & Young's Way are still the only two trails open. The mountain was moderately busy and we spent the morning skiing, before leaving around noon, as the snow tapered off. Lift tickets are still being sold at a discounted rate of $20 for adults and $15 for kids.

Tuesday, January 9

Titcomb hadn't been open since Sunday's storm, so there was plenty of leftover powder to ski today! They received about half a foot of new snow, which drastically improved conditions across the mountain. Upper Fox & The Main had opened up, and there was excellent packed powder conditions on all groomed trails. The jughandle to skier's right of Bunny and the wide slope between The Main and Otter Slide were open with ungroomed natural snow. There was lots of untracked powder to be had on The Main, even though it was in plain sight for everyone to see. As usual for a weeknight, the mountain was quite busy, and the line for T-Bar 2 was over 5 minutes long during the 4:00 hour. During this time, they opened up T-Bar 1 to spread people out a bit. Also like usual, T-Bar 1 had no lines during the time that it was open. It was great to finally be skiing quality dry snow, but unfortunately it looks like it will be short lived with the weather coming in tomorrow.

I did some cross country skiing under the lights this evening. Conditions are absolutely perfect, and the trails are well groomed. There's something special about nighttime cross country skiing, especially when you have the trails to yourself!

Sunday, January 28

Titcomb is in pretty good shape after these last few storms. All trails are open, and there are only a few spots of thin cover around the mountain. Today was a rather busy day, with lift lines of a couple minutes before lunch, and lines around 5 minutes long in the afternoon. Unfortunately, they did not run T-Bar 1, due to a lack of staffing. Conditions were packed powder, with a few areas of powder still left here and there. I did traverse over to the east side of the mountain, and it's too bad that the lift wasn't open over there, because the trails on that side were skiing very well. The glades were also good today, with some thin areas to watch out for.

Conditions are still excellent on the Nordic trails! Tonight we skied under the lights with light snow falling, making a beautiful winter scene to ski through in the woods.

Saturday, February 3

Today was a perfect bluebird day at Titcomb! The mountain is still 100% open, and both T-bars ran all day today. It was a very busy day, and the line for T-Bar 2 was 5+ minutes long for most of the day. T-Bar 1 was either ski-on or had a line of a minute or two. Groomed terrain was fast and firm, but easily edgeable and lots of fun. Ungroomed terrain was quite firm, but not icy. There is plenty of snow in the woods to ski the glades too!

There are a couple extremely steep trails there where one of the old ski jumps used to be. They're lots of fun, especially with how quickly they flatten out at the end!

Sunday, February 11

The snow at Titcomb is holding up pretty well, despite the warm temperatures, and every trail is still open. Both T-bars were running today, and there were spring conditions across the mountain. Despite a college race going on, lift lines were minimal for most of the day. Unfortunately, any ungroomed terrain was practically unskiable due to the uncondensed, but heavy and saturated snowpack.

Thursday, February 22

I went over to Titcomb for a little while this afternoon. The mountain still has good coverage after the warm weather, although the east side of the mountain is currently closed, due to poor snow conditions. Groomed runs had a nice loose granular surface, while ungroomed terrain was extremely chattery and firm. Both T-bars were running today, and the mountain was busy, but with minimal lines.

The cross country skiing was just about perfect at Titcomb today! Almost every trail was freshly groomed, and the snow was quite fast.

Tuesday, February 27

It was spring skiing in February today at Titcomb. Both T-bars and all of the night skiing terrain + Little Jumper was open. However, the bottom section of Little Jumper is getting extremely thin. Cover on other trails is generally good. Lines were a couple minutes long on T-Bar 2, due to after school programs, but lines were non-existent on T-Bar 1, due to minimal race training going on.

Between today's weather, and the snow quality/quantity, it felt like early April skiing, instead of early March. Open terrain is now limited to just the snowmaking trails, and there are numerous thin spots, although cover on open trails is generally still good. It was a warm day of spring skiing, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees. T-Bar 2 ran all day, and T-Bar 1 was open for a couple hours in the early afternoon. It was moderately busy, and lines never reached more than a couple minutes long.

Today will likely be my last day xc skiing at Titcomb this season. Many trails are still skiable, and some have quite good coverage. Others are more questionable with bare sections and water obstacles. Spring xc skiing at its finest!
