Ciscokid + Ted Reilly @ Caberfae 12/23/17
Had a great second day out today ( 3rd for Ted) at Caberfae for $30.99 liftopia and Ted and daughter using their $99 season passes. Full coverage of packed powder, little or no icy spots and a nice groom job. Temps in mid 20's to start and down to 20 mid afternoon, light winds. No grandsons today.
The highlight of the day besides the excellent ski conditions was an on the spot interview with Tim Meyer one of the owners. Ted and I talked with him for probably 10 minutes. Confirmed a new lift eastward into the backcountry in a few years. Great hands on owner.
We stopped in r dubs bar for some chicken tenders and bloody Mary's. Arlo makes the best and at $4 a bargain. Took 2 twenty or so minute breaks and skied 10-4, with Ted and daughter until 6. Looking forward to the Boyne and Nubs trip in a few weeks with , Ted, Ibrake4tbars, and Conrad. Teds buddy "wolfman" Jim and wife came after lunch. The funniest part of the day was when Jims wife decided she was going to join Ted , his daughter, and me on the south peak triple. After a 5 minute delay and observing a crew member climb the '83 Riblet to "pump" the brake before restarting the lift. Jim started up singing Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and the rest of the liftlinecsang along, cool beans.
All in all a great day with great conditions and good friends, only missing the grandsons

Keep in mind Caberfae opened in 1938 so a ton of history.

What was neat today was talking to Tim The coowner today who is 47 and saying hi to all the patrons with several saying hello to him, great conditions, etc. Won't get into detail but cool talking about the decision of choosing the new Dopp triple last year. And then the expansion with new lift in a few years. He prefers his fairly young sons become professionals not necessarily in the ski biz. I believe he and his cousin took over from
Their dads but I may have that wrong.
Ted can confirm I think the grooming, snowmaking, and all around attention to detail is the best I have ever seen it at Cabby
Oh as a side note, they say it's 100% open but once again upper I 75 double black never opened today but Ted said it was open last week and fearless telemarker Wolfman Jimmy D handled it with ease
Mountain slayer chute
Old # 1 pic
Lodge, last remaining rope tow( beginner)
Cabby kid lessons
Ski patrol practice
Short lift lines for great conditions going into cold Christmas week
The downstairs of the lodge where you are more than welcome to pack a lunch. If today was a real busy day the top of the cubbies would be lined with crock pots. When you come in from outside the smell of chili, beef stew and other foods fills the room
Great day Bob. Looking forward to our Boyne, Nubs trip in less than a month
The McKenizze Hotel
Well Michelle thought there was room on the triple , boy we saw it all yesterday, lol
Can't imagine the laughs up north, one of you guys better bring a flask, ( Jim are you listening?)
