Not to be too communist but does anyone else find the whole Heady Topper thing getting old? I try to go grocery shopping when it's in stock and the lot is filled with folks who drove a long way to drop over 70 clams for a case of beer. It's good, I admit but is it really THAT good? Besides the best beer by far is that either one in a bet or one shared.

I'm with you Bmwskier, it's really good but I'm not driving 300 miles & waiting in line for it. Same can be said for Hill Farmstead, but at least they have expanded their brewery and hopefully the hours.
I had a Wormtown Be Hoppy IPA this weekend. Pretty good. Not in the Heady category, but up there. It's not far from Ski Ward, MA.

Above suggestions all good, hard to find a DIPA that's not good. If you are new to the style I would suggest walk before you run, perhaps Sierra Nevada Torpedo, or the Sam Adams Rebel Rouser (make sure you get the green rebel, the other two suck) They are both decent, easy to find, and they're priced a couple bucks lower than the stuff that's really in vogue right now.
If you go from the Rolling Rocks straight to the Stones or the Victorys you're gonna wonder what happened to your face

No mention yet of Lawson's Sip Of Sunshine in this glorious DIPA lovefest?
Right there with Heady, Tribute, 2nd Fiddle for my palate! And since Lawson's has partnered with Two Roads Brewery in CT for the brewing and distributing it, it is available over a wider area and not just in VT. Still doesn't mean that one is likely to just walk in to their local package store and find a bunch of it in the cooler though as it is very popular!
The other thing to remember, especially with DIPA's is that their flavors change with time (and that time is often a few weeks or less) so when a DIPA was canned/bottled/poured into a growler ideally you want to consume it within a few weeks of that date. Some beers, such as high alcohol stouts/porters get better with some aging, DIPA's tend to go from that desired "juicy" citrusy, hoppy flavor to something more mellow with some malty sweetness taking over from the citrusy hoppiness

I know there has to be some.. some of our guys were up in the UP building a house a few years ago and loved the local suds. I just don't know what particular ones..

I have delivered packaging to several brewery's over the last 4 yrs but have yet to get any free samples.
Even Founders wouldn't give me any freebies.
But I made out like a bandit at Hudsonville ice cream, they have a "damaged" cooler with all kinds of ice cream the guy said take what you want. Also Cream curls and Arnies bakery.
Believe me IBrake I don't know any more than you do.
I "upgraded" to Coors light tonight but prefer jersey made RRock.
Ok switching to another beverage form and getting in the mood for fall ( and then winter) what HARD CIDER do you like, we have a new HC brewery 10 minutes up the road. ( I live in an apple growing area north of Grand Rapids called fruit ridge)
Citizen Cider is great. Their Dirty Mayor is made with ginger and creates a cider like no other. Full Nelson is dry hopped to give a hoppy taste.
Mead is something I haven't seen here. I live in Burlington, VT and there is a meadery about 10 minutes away in Colchester called Groenfell, worth a check. There are so many breweries popping up. There is 3 breweries and cidery within a quarter mile of my office. I really can't get enough of the new beer. 14th Star is pushing out some great stuff and there are many other small breweries that have just started to can/bottle (moving further away from just draught accounts). Very impressed with the way tourism has followed these beers. one worry is that I can't get my hands on beers made in my own state, because people are driving up from other states to secure a case, i.e. Heady Topper. There are a few dozen places that get it every week, but people from as far as Virginia are coming up here to buy it. Getting a little out of hand.
If you want to hear about good beers, I'd recommend looking up Two Brews Podcast, the two guys use to live near Burlington and try some great stuff.

Ski it, Wormtown is brewed in Worstah! And nearby, in Spencer, is a state-of-the-art brewery owned and operated by the Trappist monks of St. Joseph Monastery which brews Spencer Trappist Ale, incase you want to update your map of New England brewery. I'm told it's a little expensive but good. I don't know because I don't drink, quite an admission for a newspaperman of some Irish ancestry.

The best IDK, I like Lupulin Suplex Double IPA, Flying Goose Pub NH 8.7% ABV - down the street from Mt Sunapee.
