  • It was Glen Ellen then. My 1969 ski atlas sketch of the mountain shows the expansion. No lift was built. The non-existent lift made on to some topo maps too. Stumbled across one in a condo and that's what peaked my interest in skiing it. No inte…
  • Probably about 50 years ago Sugarbush cut a lift line above Inverness.  Can still make it out on Google.  I skied it in the late 80s.  Top part was nice, but eventually turned into closely bunched evergreens.
  • My annual goal is 10 new ski areas.  Planning a Central/Western NY road trip with my kids that should hopefully take care of a bunch of that.  Luckily you can tell 6 year olds were going to ski out west and they probably don't know the difference be…
  • Mountain snow bowl Missoula And Lookout , Silver and Sweitzer That area of the country is probably my #1 place to get back to for skiing.  Will wait til more of the expansions are competed though.  Since I've been there 49 North already expanded, …
  • Those interior BC areas look awesome .. I had never even heard of them .......... Went to interior BC 4 years in a row, love it out there.  Went to Northern BC 2 years ago, that was fun too, but much smaller places.  Stayed East and did Quebec last …
  • How about Interior British Columbia.  Exchange rate is still great and crowd are much smaller than the popular US places.  Silver Star, Big White, Sun Peaks if you're looking for a bigger places.
  • According to newenglandskiindustry.com (aka rocket's site), it's coming from Le Relais in Quebec City.  It might be the very odd lift that was one half of a combined quad/t-bar. They removed two of them before last year to put in a six seater, so it…
  • My guess is neither, they seems to have part of the road labeled as a "new trail" coming from the West Side.  Probably tow the injured out behind a snow mobile I figure.
  • Seems longer when you look at it on Google maps. Looks like similar length as the West side.
  • I got in touch with the Lions Club that operates Blizzard Mountain and found out that the platter was built in 1950 at Beaver Mountain, Utah and moved to Arco in 1961.  I will be getting pictures of it soon.  Has to be one of the oldest operating li…
  • double post
  • Hey Peter, you might be one short in Idaho.  Looks like Blizzard Mountain near Arco still operates.  The good news is it gives you another place to visit, and not too far from JH.... https://www.facebook.com/pg/BlizzardMountainSkiArcoID/posts/ Oh, …
  • Anyone else agree with me that RFIDs are a pain-in-the-butt?  Perhaps they will be improved, but for now, I wouldn't categorize "installing an RFID system" as an improvement! Yes, I've had 3 go bad on me during the day over the years.  Pain in the b…
  • If you do go you might want to try to pick up a Quebec Ski Passport... https://boutique.maneige.ski/produits/ski-passe-partout.html?___store=anglais They go on sale on Oct 2nd and the online ones seem to sell quickly.  After that you can buy them a…
  • I need to bring my friends there who complain about t-bar only places. Might put things in a different perspective for them. :D
  • Sorry, I thought you we're talking about the lower lower chair.  I guess with the mounting be so small, yup, the new one doesn't quite drop you off at the top.  Seemed like less than 10 feet difference in vert if I remember correctly (it's been a wh…
  • The newer double goes go to top. My sister live at the bottom and best friend at the top. With enough sting I should be able to measure it myself. :D
  • The Mt Peter chair is replacing the shorter chair on the left when looking up.  One of those doubles to the top is relatively new.  Feels like like it should be about 5 years old, but is probably 10.  Think it was one of those partially used partial…
  • The Berkshire resorts are an interesting case. I 've known a number of people from ny/nj that have second homes up there. All ski at least a bit, but often the focus was a place to get away to. The whole area is loaded with folks from further sout…
  • I remember flying over those areas some years ago in midwinter and the man-made snow was the only snow visible. Like New England in a bad year but at 8,000 feet altitude and 34 degrees latitude. The first time I tried to go there they had too much …
  • 20 years ago I would say "no doubt".  If it's an option this year my gut says "probably".  Another question is would they open June 1 if they know they can also do 2, 3 and 4?  And will they bring back the June 1 Fun Slalom?  I still have a June 1 t…
  • NE skier, if you saw a Tele skier on the chairlift edge of the snow skiing around10: till 10:45 with green boots and Atomic skis that was me. Crispis?
  • Looks like a good week for not a lot of melting.
  • See here... https://liftblog.com/peak-2-peak-gondola-whistler-blackcomb-bc/ Not cheap for sure.
  • My best guess is he had to pee and went to the "Water Closet".  My 2nd guess would be "World Cup".  :-)
  • Tough call.  Weather isn't looking great, probably not much sun to soften things, so the next weekend might be better.  However, the easier trails may be gone by then.  My girls had a bit of a tough time on the Superstar Headwall last Sunday.  But n…
  • Took two or three cat rides at Powder Mtn, UT to ski their side country. They pile 'em in that cat pretty tightly, but one early morning ride my son and I got it by ourselves: I did that "cat" ride, but since there were only 4 of us on a very quiet…
  • Mount Snow used to do rides for kids.  One day after all the kids were done the driver was kind enough to allow myself and two others adults to have a ride.  It was a tight squeeze, at least one of the other adults was my girlfriend at the time.  Wa…
  • Mont Glen and maybe Baldy in BC. Hopefully Baldy can make a good of it.
  • You've been upset since 1989?I'd probably find a lot of things to be upset about if I ever get back to Sugarloaf. Yup, North Face was a lot more "classic" before Plummet and Freefall.  The lift was needed, so I can forgive Freefall.  As for Plummet.…
