  • I spent an enjoyable afternoon at Titcomb a few seasons ago. Nicely laid out and spread out for a small-vertical ski area. Thanks for the pretty summer photos, Sam! Woody
  • What is a side loading chair? People load by sliding on the bench with the safety bar already down? That's right. Loading Onto a Side-loading Chair will be a new event in the 2022 Olympics, along with Involuntary Under-the-bar Unloading.

  • Well, no grand expeditions to new areas planned for 2018-19, but ciscokid mentioned a possible get-together at Holiday Mountain that has me intrigued. Maybe combine Holiday with Holimont or another area nearby? Woody
  • OK, now I see the new pic.   It hadn't changed when I reposted JimK's question above ... and I didn't think the skateboard and purple outfit were mine.  :-/ Woody That was a "snowboard". It's a newfangled thing that's destined to be all…

  • and Woody buys Snowjournal? :-?? Let's see ... How do you make no money operating an online forum dedicated to skiing and ski history? Start with two million dollars?  Maybe more. I think I'll stick with vintage ski patches and antique Christ…
  • Oh yes Woody we need a professor to keep the kids in order. If you come I'm 100%in. Heck if you drive 4 hrs to BB what's 6 for good company. You might be able to talk me into Blue Knob, Seven Springs or Laurel I'm thinking of making a week out of i…
  • Alex or Rick,( or any of you) I think I would have enjoyed pub199 in Mt Arlington. My mom and sister and daughter are there right now. Being my dad was a big game hunter I would enjoy the mounts and the seafood and menu look priced well( although ca…
  • I believe the old nelsapped Petersburg Pass/Taconic Trails/Mt Raimer was in both New York and Massachusetts. It is/was 100% in New York State. Welcome to SJ Aldee. My understanding with respect to Petersburg Pass.  The area was fully in NY - b…
  • Great report! That’s why that trail was closed March 4th when I was there! They were saving it for Woody! ) Then thanks for not ducking the rope, ski_it!
  • What trail was that at BB? Newman, it was Boulder Park.  The operating lift was to skier's right: the Big Boulder triple.  And the BB Park lodge was open, with grill service outside and beer, etc., indoors.
  • So, Jeremy, now that you've wrapped up (I assume) your ski season with yesterday's excursion to Whiteface, do you have any updates on when LSA of the Berkshires will roll of the presses?  Excited minds want to know. Woody
  • Is this the first time for May lift-serviced-skiing in PA? Joshua, I thought that might be the case.  People there told me, though, that some of the previous May Day events at BB have included lift service, although it seemed that the event more o…
  • Wow Woody! I am impressed, never took you to be a park rat. Driving 8 hrs roundtrip for it . All Interstate 81 ? I took my mom to Tulip time in Holland yesterday and if she hadn't been here and Ted made a call I would have been up to Boyne to get my…
  • Thanks to all!   Great advice about what to expect and where to consider going.  I'll save a copy of this thread so I can think things through in a few years if I can still manage to put one ski in front of the other. Meanwhile ... (see photo)…
  • Hey Woody sorry to hijack your thread here.  May skiing is generally better in Colorado, here's a screen grab from Loveland a few minutes ago.  They have what you're looking for!  Put it on your non-bucket list for when you retire... :-O…
  • Looks like its just the Park, with "maybe" a chair lift running. Impressive nonetheless. Poconos, skiing/ridding, on snow, in May. Yeah, its been a cold spring.... Yes, just Big Boulder Park.  Facebook chat fwiw indicates that a chairlift will…
  • As an instructor I can say that I get tipped probably 20% of the time. I had been away from skiing for more than 30 years when our son got onto the snow for the first time back in 2003.  I didn't realize that tipping the instructor was customary .…
  • What is really sad is that with the Majella deal looking dubious from the beginning and dead for some time now, that no other buyer or even rumor of one has materialized. Is the newly formed Saddleback-related foundation still an option ?
  • You did it!  Glad to see the get-together.  Only sad that I missed it.  Looks like a good time. Cheers to all, Woody
  • [snip] As an occasional Snowshoe skier, I have to wonder where exactly they are going to put these things - all over the main mountain and backside I guess.  Honestly they do pretty good in that area already.   Agree about Snowshoe's existi…
  • To Tyg's list, add: PA Seven Springs -- at least one of the chairlifts, maybe two, lack safety bars on the chairs. Woody
  •  I will sneak away from the wedding to take pictures of the location.  :-O [-X :-O X_X I take that as a lack of encouragement.  Probably a good idea.  Whooo-boy, Kayaker!  Remember the provision in the Constitution's preamble about t…
  • Amazing, sugarloaf! Hope you made your peace with Fallen Timbers.  Nice photos, and I don't blame you for not taking many ... April conditions change too rapidly. Woody
  • Hmm ... or should I say Hmph?  :-?? I've skied Bromont three times and enjoyed each visit.  The vertical is 1000 feet, which is OK but not large by the region's standards.  What's been especially fun for me are the layout (ski runs on all sides of…
  • Wow, NewEnglandSkier13, what a day at Mt. Abram!   The snow, the sky, and April skiing.  I skied a day there three years ago and really enjoyed the layout, runs, and conditions.  Well worth spending some time there. Thanks for the report and p…
  • David, Thanks for sharing your poem in your post here.  Your final stanza is especially poignant, probably to most of us who have visited a ski area that has closed: It may seem bizarre, to some out there, mourning for the cold and frozen air,…
  • Poma's are easier for skiers.  Okemo had one over 6000'.(and $5 midweek tickets in the 70's). I loved that lift.  Just about all in the woods, too, so riders were well-protected from the weather.  As you rode, sometimes all you'd hear was the whis…
  • Really enjoyed the report and photos of Rickbolger and Jmaul's Excellent Adventure at Victor Constant.   What a great day to be on their runs!
