  • I wish we could get someone to go there and take some pictures. Would be nice to get a report from a poster, and not the mountain itself. See the above post with the link in it from ski_it for some pictures. Sorry, I forgot to hit the sarcasm…

  • Elk Mountain, PA They advertise 1000 ft vertical, but certainly seems larger than that. Having the two sides make it ski bigger, and all those spruce trees make you feel like you are somewhere other than Pennsylvania.

  • > <<br /> Honestly, Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak has to be one of the most beautiful-looking eastern resorts in my mind with true summit to base skiing. Just looking at it from the base area is really impressive. It was precisely that v…
  • I wouldn't want Sugarbush to be bought up. However, if it comes down to survival in this new age of ski resort conglomeration, I think this would be a fit for Alterra.
  • I think Alterra would be more a likely suitor for Sugarbush as it would provide a counter option to Stowe. As for lifts that should be replaced, nothing ranks higher on my list than that stupid Cabriolet at Mountain Creek. That should be swapped w…
  • I wonder what the backup plan is for early season skiing if the K1 Gondola is not ready to go.
  • No way would that happen at MRG without the word getting out. Too many shareholders have invested in keeping something like this from happening. If anything, I think like the telephone game, the story changes a little from person to person. It woul…

  • Sorry to say, but it is true. I am a shareholder, and we tried to keep it hush. I am offering lifetime passes to the first 100 people who send me $750 in cash or money order. I will back date the passes and make them a condition of the sale.

  • This makes no sense. The K1, Superstar, and spe all have significantly more vertical than Snowdon and Mt. Creek. It's like me saying I don't bother with Pico because Pat's Peak is better than their A lift. Actually Superstar has pretty much th…
  • Killington's not my favorite but I agree with joshua_segal about sticking to pods. I've had my most enjoyable days there lapping one or two pods all day, and my least favorite memories are days when we try to ski the whole mountain. Really, it's j…

  • Well compared to the top resorts around the globe, the East is a bit lacking, especially skiable acres (some ski areas have as many skiable miles as Stowe has acres). That said, given they reviewed 1,000 resorts, I would have thought more than just …
  • In the mid 90s, it was a brutally cold day at Killington, riding the peak chairlift in it's last season. A wind gust straight from the north pole came along and blew the contact lens right out of my eye. I was wearing goggles, so it did get caught i…
  • Sounds like the author has never set foot east of the Mississippi, unless it was to catch a connecting flight from Denver to Zurich via JFK. You overpaid for that book
  • I wonder what lifts will run at Pico if you rent the mountain?

  • I hate this thread concept. I can't even think that way. I agree, I can’t bring myself to say that any ski area is the “worst”. Despite my ramblings against Killington, I do like the place. I like all the places on the list, some more than…
  • . Good comment NJSki. So if you are limiting yourself to areas that have greater than 2K vertical that take you to the summit in a single ride, the only choices for you are Jay, Smugglers', Stowe, Cannon, Wildcat, Le Massif, Mt. St. Anne and Mon…

  • Yes, I find Sugarbush, MRG, as well as Stowe and Smuggs to be more to my taste.
  • IMHO Killington is the worst of the areas on the list that I have skied. I have had good days there, and I am not saying it's bad, but I feel like it doesn't live up to the hype it used to get. The big vertical drop is essentially one trail to the b…
  • I would also say: Loon-South Peak Cannon Mtn-Mittersill Bretton Woods-Rosebrook & Stickney Gore- North Creek Snow Bowl SMH Huntah
  • What is the larger expansion they are referring to 15 years ago? A 25% increase in skiable area? Five medium length trails, one lift, and gladed areas that will be rarely usable. Marketing spin machine. BS
  • I have never stopped at the Gables, but have frequented your other choices, and agree. I loved spring skiing at Mt Ellen, and the Glen House. Perfect set up. Have heard that the Sunshine Corner at Magic can be a great spot, but I have never been the…
  • By the 1990s, glades were back and by 2000, if your area didn't have glades, you weren't a "major area" any more. Part of the problem with skiing glades is that you have to go slower and take much more care in skiing them. In the era before super-…
  • I think one of the best ideas for advertising was putting the ads on the luggage carousels at the airport. You are just standing there waiting anyway, and are forced to look down.
  • Sugarbush, both mountains. All over the place. Steep as well as low angle glades for intermediate to expert. Eden is one of the best intermediate glade areas there is in the east. That's what I have heard as well, but I'll be damned if I can find …
  • Most of the stuff listed above is novice terrain. Low end novice, but novice just the same. You really want beginners negotiating Sunway, Tuckerbrook, Hunter One, etc? I think the j-bar at Burke is an excellent beginner area. Bear Cub at Gore.…
