  • I hate how a misplaced cursor damns one to pose as the quoted commenter, but anyway....this is not newpylong but a comment to his note about Gore (yes, thread hijack continues) and Z's above it:Newp: Agreed on the logistics of MA/CT to Gore. To Z: N…
  • I have a suspicion that Gore has an ongoing plan for slowly but surely overcharging and underdelivering. In the few years I've been skiing there, prices have gone up, and snowmaking has decreased.   The parking lots and the lodges are maxed out, and…
  • I thought they were running Burnt Ridge more often these days. Not true? Gore lacks the snowmaking horsepower of the big SVT areas. It takes a lot of manmade snow to open the Cedars Traverse connector and Echo and eventually Sagamore. Burnt Ridge …

  • I do not think there are any poma discs on the Stratton poma anymore. It is never open. The Shooting Star at Stratton does run more than you think.  It is usually running when the Snowbowl FGQ and the Gondola are not running due to wind for both and…
  • Does look steep for blues but some other blues there are like blacks at other smaller areas. These "blue" trails are going to be fun with typical east coast hard pack :)>-
  • I think this is a great move. That mountain is so bizarre in its layout, due to the topography, and this provides 3 realtively straightforward intermediate runs, away from the main lodge mayhem. The maps show pretty tight lines for intermediate runs…
  • Sounds like a waste of money, especially for how many people whiteface sees per season. Funds would likely be better spent doing lift upgrades at gore.  Freeway is a seldom used lift because of the terrain it services and bear lift never has a line.…
  • Montreal has a ton of options that Balsams has to compete against. There are all the small areas north of Montreal on rt 15 leading up to Mt Tremblant. They are close and affordable. There are the Eastern Townships with some awesome big time skiing…
  • Belleayre gondi also will allow easy access to the Highmount trails - if and when they get added to Belleayre.
  • The problem I saw from day 1 was that no matter the facilities that were built, you were still skiing the 'stack. Aparently, you don't get it. I've seen this type of proclamation from others also. There is no mountain in southern vt, that is outst…
  • Poma's are easier for skiers.  Okemo had one over 6000'.(and $5 midweek tickets in the 70's). Okemo had something like 5 pomas. When I was a little kid we used to get some good air when they released the poma you were riding.
  • It is 1 mile and 1500 vertical and steep at the end when your legs start to shake. That is a big no. ;) Plattekill's t-bar was about 3000 feet long and 1000 vertical and it was a leg killer.
  • There has been rumors here in the valley of a Mt Snow take over.....however I callbjhhjl on that ever happening again.  Sadly Hermitage is worth more dead than alive as far as mechanical assets are concerned.   The actual Peak folks I've talked to…
  • What a joke. Buy a business and then go look for the funds. The Berrys are getting fooled by this Australian carny barker. But this is nothing new for the Berrys. They have made a whole litany of bad decisions during their ownership of SB. The patt…
  • Approximately 1400 miles NYC to Burke Burke to Quebec City Quebec City to Le Massif Quebec City to Mont St Anne Quebec City to Ile d'Orleans Quebec City back to NYC Sounds like a great trip It was. The right mix of skiing, culture, and awesome f…

  • Per the Act 250 documents, the lift will begin above Old Logging Road and will have a slightly different alignment.  The Bottom of Snow Bowl Alley and the top of Upper Wanderer are being rerouted while it looks like Chute is being closed and the big…
  • Yellowstone's founder put the YC up as collateral on a $375 million loan from Credit Swiss and allegedly kept $209 million for themselves. That was the source of the problem at the YC. It is now running smoothly.
  • 2/10/2018 - Raining at Stratton right now. Conditions are nice and soft, but snow is a better choice.
  • Cant you ski out of the top Chair 3 pod down into Lower Slucie to the base? Spruce Run is a flat trail that takes you from the top of Chair 3 to the top of Chair 1. Cant you can ski from the base of chair #3 down through ranger to lower sluice to…

  • Skied Gore Saturday.  In light of these proposals, I tried to be a bit more of a clinical observer of what was going on, as I've been a Gore fan since I started skiing there a few years ago. Gore has a long way to go to compete with Vermont.   Came …
  • How much will it cost to rebuild lift One. Then what about parts and such for a old lift with rare chairs? If they could figure a way to install a lift from the base to the summit of Chair 6, the could retire 1 and 3. All trails on both areas of th…
  • Tupper has zero snowmaking equipment.
  • My son went to Clarkson, so I'm interested.  http://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/news/local-news/2017/12/lavalley-big-tupper-ski-price-was-overstated/?platform=hootsuite There is no mention of snowmaking in that article. Why repair a chair whe…
  • The connector lift would help in low snow times to get the development going at Ski Bowl. maybe a cabriolet? Hybrid? I am confused on the extension of High Peaks to the top. Any additional trails it would serve go to other lifts. If lapping High Pea…
  • From the top of the Straightbrook Chair,  skiing down Cloud towards the top of the High Peaks Chair - the top section as discussed above, is extremely flat it not uphill in places. It's a slog for skiers, and absolutely no fun for snowboarders. I di…

  • Thoughts? The only way they are going to increase skier visits is with some advertising in the NY metro area. The problem is the WF/LP ORDA board members, which is to say most of the board, will never approve anything that promotes Gore. It would s…
