  • Rain Sunday for at least SVT. Who started this thread to put the jinx on?
  • The URSA HS6 at Stratton ran on diesel the last part of the last ski season. It was not as fast but they were filling every chair when they was a line.
  • There are labeled glades on the 1982 Stowe map above Nose Dive. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was introduced to glade skiing at Killington and then at Stowe and MRG. There was always glade skiing at Sugarbush off the Paradise trail. At Gore t…
  • Was just talking to my 88 yr old mom about dropping my brother and i off at Snow Bowl, who just drops their kids off by themselves like that anymore? When I was in 4th/5th/6th grade I was dropped off at Campgaw with a couple of friends for the day…
  • Don't know Sam's Maple grove Remember Triangle Hofbrau? Funny I never went to Henno's ski shop, always went to Denville ski and sport Yes to the Triangle Hofbrau, that was a favorite. I worked at Heinos during the fall and early winter when …
  • Cool neighbor, remember the awful awful at Buxtons shakes across from Wayne Manor? Then we can agree to disagree on state funded ski areas!⛷ Yes, I remember Buxtons, but they had the Big Bux - I think Bonds had the Awful Awful. Friendlys had a…
  • What a great year, 9 yrs old, man on the moon, Joe Namath and the Jets, Nolan Ryan and the Mets and a year later ('70) my Pequannock little league team lost to the Craig Kornfield led WORLD CHAMPION Wayne NJ at Williamsport Pa( well we lost to them…
  • I disagree, Z. While the State run ski areas may "compete" with the private ones, they are clearly not playing on a level field. If a private ski area operates in the red for a few years, they go out of business. If the State run ski areas operat…
  • The far left lift install for one single trail is also highly questionable, especially in conjunction with extending the current day Sunway. Blank check mentality. I have been skiing Gore since ORDA took over in the early 1980s. It is not a blank …
  • I'm sorry but as a NYS taxpayer I'd be P O'd to have to pay exhorbitant taxes toward something I have no interest in.( skiing) From what I gather NY and NH are the 2 leading states to use taxpayer funds for ski areas. This is a silly point. Ever…
  • It is 195 miles to our place in Vt. It is 7 miles to Stratton and 9 miles to Magic. We get season passes at Stratton and go about 3 out of 4 weekends from Dec until closing in April.
  • Elk is a fun place with ownership that has very little regard for the customers. They need serious help with customer service.
  • Here in the flatlands of north NJ the trees are still mostly green. Usually by now there is some yellow and orange.

  • this is what killed Tupper...long drawn out court cases. At some point these people need to realize that there is a balance between man and nature. Unless you want the Cats, and dacks completely man free unless its from the area they live in... Ba…
  • 18 years later.........
  • Just guessing, but the 2 springs that seem to hold the actual chair to the frame might be the wind stabilizers.
  • The High Peaks double needs to go back to the top of Gore. It also need to be replaced.
  • Summit was never open and it was always the lower section with 600 vertical vs the summit and off summit pod that were always closed. They definitely had snowmaking on Spruce Run from the top of chair 3 down to the top of chair 1. This allowed BT …
  • Actually Im going to throw a bone, what do you guys think of Big Tupper? Obviously its in the middle of Nowhere but it can draw from Potsdam and Watertown/Drum populace. Lack of snowmaking killed this place and the downfall of Tupper lake itself wh…
  • Gore is a false summit where you cannot see the top from the bottom, but I can see the top of Whiteface from the bottom, so I do not think that is a false summit. It is just a case of the lift not going to the top. Maybe I am misreading this?
  • Something tells me the balsams wouldn't have been successful being so remote, but who am I to say. Montreal is not too far off. Montreal already has a huge choice of US and Canadian ski areas to choose from that are closer or the same distance as…
  • I am surprised nobody has beaten up Whiteface for its usually unforgiving Conditions. I haven't been to Whiteface since 1973, so I have to ask: In the snowmaking/super-grooming era, is that still the case? Pretty much. WF is still hyper expos…
  • See the part about sports, above. Educators and bureaucrats are talking out of both sides of their mouths -- focus on schoolwork! Unless of course you can throw a football really well. In high school, sports practice/game is usually no more than…
  • Or we could just meet up at Pico on a Thursday, have basically the same empty mountain and not have the aggravation of trying to collect money in order to make the $6500 work. The same is true at Plattekill. Just go on a Friday and pay the cheap day…
  • I always thought the origal Adirondack Express was unique because it looked like a erector set in the base terminal It was a detachable triple. That should quality it for this list.
  • Belleayre - Belleayre's lower section has two 3000 foot long double chairs over 500 vertical feet, about 10 mellow trails, and its own lodge. It is separated from the main mountain. It is an oasis for beginners and novices.
  • Palm Springs Aerial Tram up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park (CA). It starts at 2643' and stops at 8516' - 2.5 miles long. It is a worth visiting if you are in the Palm Springs area. https://www.pstramway.com/
  • I can't Imagine it being 1000 vertical. Its close but its more like 900 looking at a topo. The summit of the lift is just about 2700 and the base is almost exactly 1800 feet. Still looks like some great terrain. I am just really confused why they di…
  • They are opening with a new type of skiing - Dirt Skiing. They are trying to trademark it so don't steal the name. Here is the real slogan for Big Tupper: No Snowmaking - No Skiing
