Whaleback closed their chair today as expected. Plenty of snow below the top but they didn't make any up there at all. Makes no sense. Shortest season on record for the chair.

I guess my recollection of 14-15 overall was different but I took no detailed notes by any means. I remember tons of snow and barely any thaws throughout the season. It was the year I would wake up to a fresh inch constantly. It ranks high in my min…

Mount Snow had a little something going on yesterday later in the day.

Killington: Guns on Caper through Lower Chute, Lower GN. Magic - guns on at the base, can't see where else. Okemo some going down low. Loon - some online. Sunday River, Mount Snow, Sugarbush, the Loaf, Stratton idle. Wind is a serious issue r…

Storrs Hill (3/3) Whaleback won't be far behind. In true recent fashion they made plenty of snow on the race trail but not from the chair unload down to it.

There is no blanket rate, every ski area has different usage and negotiates seperately with GMP. The other consideration besides the rate is the Demand charge. Most ski areas are going to eat the cost of this when push comes to shove and they want t…

There are bare spots on snowmaking trails appearing at Killington already. I think you're going to find anyone but the smallest players restart snowmaking tonight if they want to have a chance at reaching their target closing date. The carnage picks…

We'll see where you all stand after 7+ more brutal days of 50 degrees mixed with fog, rain and a refreeze mixed in. SMH.

Coral Reef

At least a few more weeks? Hit 60 degrees around lunchtime here in NH.
-
Didn't they begin hauling the ex-Jordan Express Quad out of the River this winter? They may not be getting a new lift...
-
Time to make a closing thread already sadly. Storrs Hill is pulling the plug this Sunday 3/3. I imagine Whaleback will be done too. Both had an ungodly late state and did not make a lot of snow.
-
It's the only criteria that is not subjective because no one is collecting data to show the thaw refreeze events, amount of net snow lost, etc. If those were collected it would only show this year is crappier in reality than on paper.

What's different would be the more abundant snowfall prior to March that year. 136" for Killington going into March is abysmal. Whaleback is only reporting 27" so far this season (they reported 46" for 2021-2022) so yes there is still time for redem…

For the next 10 days at my location (Central NH) there is a grand total of 1 day forecasted to be below 50 degrees. Yes March is usually extremely snowy but it could be too late to salvage by that point.

Lift Blog says they'll be getting the Gore Ski Bowl's Hudson Triple this off-season?
-
For anyone still on the fence the next week + should knock it down a notch. Early April conditions in late February.
-
I consider Killington my "control" location as far as yearly snowfall. Kinda in the middle of snow country geographically. See attached chart. They are at 136" so far, and if they get their March and April averages they will end up around 200". If t…

They used a compressed air gun with a leader at Whaleback for the high points.

Ran 10 to 4. Pretty awesome.

You are right to be wary. The ski racing community does not have the general public in their best interest. I say this after attending a top tier race academy and being a racer from the age of 10 to 18. They exert tremendous pressure on ski area ope…

Yeah I was gonna say, it looks like Turnpike is pretty much no more after they put in those two abominations (Ripper and Christopher's Leap). Not sure what the infatuation there is with building boulevard straight fall line double diamonds like Jimi…

Considering how unpredictable this winter has been (and next week's forecast) and the fact that many ski areas are still making snow to make it until they're predicted closing dates, that's probably doubtful.

30s and into the 40s here in central NH next week.

Posted at 2PM Snow Report: Black Line Quad passed its load test on Tuesday, a critical step, and now will be state inspected this coming Saturday 2/17. So there is potential it will be opening to the public by Monday the 19th (insert caveats here…
-
I haven't seen official word from Magic on the outcome of the test but considering the brevity I think it's likely they passed.

Back down there a notch or two above 2015-16 IMHO. 26" snow total here, pathetic.

No snowmaking yet on Hornet.

Double now open... Until it melts out that is.
