Summarizing:
Two New England areas, reasonably close together, both with night skiing. Even Grandpa should be able to figure this one out!

Petersburg Pass was fully in NY - though quite literally only a stone's throw from MA. In spirit though, I get the point.

While not lift-serviced, one could continue below the lowest lift into MA; but in the strictest sense - you are correct.

Interesting. I couldn't find that website.

But my suspicion is that whoever put that data together couldn't believe Oct. 11 could be correct. But I was there.

Either that, or because they were only open for a couple of nights, they may not have considered it a "real opening".

Me too Quietman. It says not an all-inclusive list. They don't have it in 69-70 either but they do list Brodie as Oct 25, 1969. NELSAP doesn't mention it either that I could find.

Ok so I didn’t read the whole thread, just the end, so didn’t realize it was New England only.

But to be clear, Cataloochee Ski Area in North Carolina was first IN THE EAST in 2019, and Sugar in 2022. And I believe there was an early instance where Sugar and Beach were first, but can’t find proof.

And this was on natural and machine made snow in cold temps, not an oversized slurpy machine in the mid 50’s like Ski Ward.

I was not there, learned to ski in 1970 at Mt Abram. My earliest seasonal turns at a ski area were on Oct 28, 2005 at Waterville and were earned.

I suspect there are multiple ski areas which fit. Saddleback fits all three clues.

That's what I was looking for. I shuld have narrowed it down to cut SB by saying "Multiple HSQs". SR started with just one surface lift I think before first chair went in, but I am not an expert on that; just using Liftblog

Saddleback and Sunday River both have multiple surface lifts. SB has T-Bar plus carpet and SR has Gould T Bar and at least 2 carpets in succession by Barker.

I should correct myself: Okemo has multiple carpets. Should have said 'overhead cable surface lift' instead of surface lift. That plus te HSQ thing would make Okemo work.
