Certainly a part of the NE that could use and economic driver such as a ski area. I imagine people have been hurting in that region since it closed.
Rangely is a big snowmobiling destination, so that takes up the lodging slack. Lodging availability is the big problem for non day trip skier's during the ski season as it conflicts with snowmobiles for lodging space. All of my ski days there are as a day trip from Sugarloaf, or skiing and lodging there in April after snowmobiling is done for the season.
Sugarloaf has a huge amount of lodging slopeside, something Saddleback is really lacking. Sugarloaf also attracks alot of Canadian skier's from the Atlantic province's because they have lodging space. In all my years of skiing at Saddleback I can't recall coming across a Canadian skier.
It was a bit upsetting to see the Berry's invest in lifts and a base lodge, but not the planned slopeside hotel. Replacing the Kennebago T-bar without a new Rangely chair was a huge mistake.
New owner priority should be to replace Rangely chair with a quad . A HSQ would be preferable, but probably too expensive. Cupsuptic T-bar must also be replaced with a chairlift, but that can wait.
