Whaleback has survived the most recent thaw with a few major snowmaking routes open. There were three major routes down from the summit, plus three trails off the T-bar. Temperatures were in the thirties and a clear day gave way to overcast and eventually rain for the last hour of the day. The snow was hard packed powder which was very fast and fun to ski on. The snow surface held up well thought the day with just a few patches of thin snow and ice here and there. It was not crowded at all and most people on the mountain were with ski camps or race training with Kimball Union after school. It was a good day and about the best that could be expected after such a major thaw.
