Le Massif vs. Mont Sainte Anne

Who has skied either or both of these Quebec areas? There’s a high chance I can make one of them this January, and am curious to hear your thoughts on these areas. Both look terrific and have a lot to offer.

I’ve been to them and pasted old trip reports below. They are both quite good with great terrain, and the chance to sightsee in old Quebec City is really a nice additional incentive to get up there. If you need to stay close to the city, then go to MSA. If you have a little more time, then go to Le Massif because it’s riverside setting is even closer and more beautiful than MSA.

Thanks Jim. We’re considering lots of options. Airbnb places are abundant and affordable. We’re also thinking of skiing Le Relais, Stoneham - and Mt. Gleason on the way up or back.

My pick would be Le Massif. I’ve been to both several times and it’s my pick for best in eastern No. America but you also have the opportunity to night ski at Mt Sainte Anne or Stoneham!

Watch your gear at MSA. Rampant thievery around base area the last time I was there 5 yrs ago. That being said, the skiing is excellent

They are both fantastic areas and if possible, spend at least one day at the one you don’t choose. That being said, I agree with Remski: Le Massif is the better of the two, but if they weren’t so remote, both would be in the 10 ten list for best ski areas in the Northeast.

My only fall last season was at Mont Ste. Anne - on the slippery base lodge floor. 😏

I’ve skied MSA and Le Massif and had great times at both. Le Massif is, overall, more challenging and its runs bring you closer to the St. Lawrence River. But don’t miss the ski museum at Ste. Anne. MSA is the longtime well-established resort, while Le Massif is the moderne upstart. Driving to the top of Le Massif seems like going to Alaska, far from any community. Condos surround you as you leave town and approach Ste. Anne.

My adult son and I a blast night skiing at Stoneham, and we enjoyed a sunny morning at Le Relais before heading to the Adirondacks. Go to all four and stay for the season.

Been a while since I was at MSA, but I remember the skiing feeling a bit like a bigger Stratton. Just my impression.
