Kanc versus 302

I know I spell it wrong but need a little advice
Having dinner in Woodstock Vt or WRJ and have a healthy drive to N Conway in the dark.

What route is fastest and safest? Thinking 91 to 93 to 302, how slow is the Kank?

You probably see that 93/302 is Google’s top choice from WRJ. It is 5 min. shorter but 17 mi. longer than going the Kanc. I tend to like shorter mileage. The Kanc is a good road. I’ve not driven either 302 or 112 (Kanc) in the winter. Both have great views, but driving in the dark doesn’t matter. So if you’re able to get local driving reports the day of, I think that would be the determining factor. It’s Kancamagus.

They both suck in bad weather. Get day-of conditions reports and decide based on that.

Not knowing your driving skill level I’d recommend 91N to 93S to 302E in inclement weather. NH does a great job on their roads but I have to believe they concentrate on 302 over the Kanc. Last time I drove the 112 section from 91 to 93 it’s pretty winding and bumpy. The 93 to 16 section is better, but more remote & has the infamous hairpin turns. But they all work. Watch the Moose. I’ve almost hit one on th Kanc and 302

Agreed on 112. I’d avoid it if things are slick.

302, much easier drive. 112 to the Kanc only if you prefer scenic and the road conditions are dry all the way. Keep in mind that conditions at elevation may be different than in the valley. Only issue with 302 is the dip down into Crawford Notch can be hairy in snowy conditions. Still better than 112 to the Kanc in bad weather.

Guy, that’s why I called ya dude.. just kidding.. I guess I’ve spent too much time over at Carinthia this year..
I can’t pronounce it right either. Anyway 302 unless it’s dry and clear. Both beautiful drives in the day light. Don’t take any GPS short cut over seasonal dirt roads like Bear Notch Road. My Garmin once tried to send me down forest company roads in Maine in the winter
