I suppose it's late enough in the fall that I can let this thread die, but with things not looking like Killington will open this week, I'll attempt to keep this going for another week or so, here's an easy one:

There are at least three New England Ski Areas that had more than 500' of vertical that closed and re-opened (with one or more lifts), but with less than 50% of their original vertical drop. Name them.

Big Squaw, Ascutney, and Eaton Mountain

Yes, it did - and I believe it was 600' vertical.

OK, I don't know the answer for this one yet, requires some research. But which ski area is closest to the Appalachian Trail in each state that it exists.

Ehhh, go with open. Also, the ski area doesn't have to be in the same state as the trail. Example, Shawnee might be closer to the NJ section of the trail than Mountain Creek and whatever they call Hidden Valley these days. Didn't check yet though.

NH- Dartmouth Skiway. Goes right through it, I think
NY- Mt Peter

MA = Mt Greylock Ski Club if you don’t like that it’s Ski Butternut
VT = gotta be Stratton
CT= Thunder Ridge NY or Ski Butternut MA

For VT, the AT utilizes trails on Bromley & Killington.

Eaton is listed on NE Ski History as having a vertical drop of 525', but Arrowhead never had much more than 300' according to topo maps.

See http://www.nelsap.org/nh/arrowhead.html which indicates 600' and while I've never skied there, I drive past it often on my way to Killington. It looks like about 600 from the road.

Arrowhead can't be much more than 400, if at all based on my observations.

The AT goes right across the top of Blue Mountain in PA.

I looked closer at the topo maps and the vertical drop comes out to 425'.

Hmm think I need someone who's hiked it several times or a better set of maps. Google Maps seems to be wrong in spots I've compared to USGS topos. GM shows it as going nowhere near the summit of Stratton but on the USGS it goes right over. But does not appear to cross a ski trail. It does show as crossing a little of Bromley. Killington is another strange one. Topo shows it west of Killington, Snowdon & Ramshead Peak summits. GM shows it west of KPeak but east of Snowdon actually on Great Northern & Frolic trails. Dartmouth I can't reconcile. GM shows two loops. One west around Holt's to the Trapper John shelter and the other goes down to & then up Grafton Road that splits the ski area. On the USGS it sure looks like it skirts west & north of the ski area coming close to the Papoose trail.

I came up with 3200 ft to the Ski Butternut summit and 1.6 miles to Greylock Ski Club on GM.

At Dartmouth it crosses the road (actually then follows another road for a short bit) just about at snowmaking pond. Up above I believe it goes along Papoose or pretty darn close.
