I thought it was #7, but u noticed last. So anyway, way back the day they finally got it started after all the troubles, I saw a mechanic in the top booth and told him tower #__ was making a lot of noise. Still is

How crowded? Friends are trying to talk me into going next Sunday against my number one ski rule: NO Mt Snow in the weekend.

Crowd seemed to arrive later Sunday than previous Sundays. Grand Summit and Canyon only had people in the approach line (no one in the queues) until like 10:30. Queues were 3/4 full, maybe 10 minute wait max, at 11:30. Definitely not bad by Mount Snow weekend standards.

Agreed. We were riding the GSE single. First 3/4 full, then less than half, then a qtr as people spread out. Sunbrook was ski on at 11-12. At the Nitro at 1:30 the queue was like 3/4-1/2, the singles to the end, but the next run singles 1/2. Of course it makes a big difference when everything is running well.

Sunday: No-Trespassing signs up in the lots but Carinthia beach lot was 2/3rds full. Rail session going on next to the carpet with some older park riders, sledders on the pipe and jump landings, a few skinners and hikers going higher. They had plowed snow up to block the lips of the jumps/rails. Snow was softening up nicely.

Interesting... as there was a sign up out side the Grind that read something like "mountain closed.. no medical services available... ski and ride at your own risk.."

There were multiple folks skinning / hiking up Canyon trail that I could see.

Outside the grind was also the drop off for rental/demo skies/boots and they were all lined up there. Pretty eerie.

Mar. 14, 2020 - Sat. 47 of 88 trails, ropes may have dropped on several more, 16 of 20 lifts, sunny 25-35+F, light to moderate winds blowing out of the north due south, great visibility, machined groomed, spring conditions, corn snow, variable conditions. 0” new in 7 days.
Well during this pandemic, we, like a number of others, decided to go and skiing although we just missed their age recommendation.

Friday the 13th - VAIL RESORTS:
"As a global operator of 37 ski resorts, Vail Resorts continues to monitor the rapidly evolving impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19) from all angles. Unwaveringly and without question, our top priority is the health and wellbeing of our guests and employees. We are fortunate to have strong partnerships with the communities where we operate and we are closely monitoring the statements and following the guidance and recommendations from local, state/provincial and federal health agencies on COVID-19.
All of our North American resorts are open as scheduled, and operating according to the most updated guidance and precautions from health officials.

Over the course of the weekend, we will begin to deploy specific actions to encourage social distancing and to slow the spread of COVID-19. Actions include:

-We are reducing operations at our on-mountain, quick-serve dining facilities to avoid crowding. We will have limited pre-packaged food options available, but we will not be serving hot food. Please plan accordingly.
-We will ask guests to ride on chairlifts and gondolas with their parties only. We ask for our guests’ patience while we implement this new protocol.
-We will post signage with social distancing reminders and our employees will be on site to help encourage safe protocols.
-We are aware that there are event restrictions in place across many states, provinces and counties where we operate. We are – and will continue to – follow all official guidance and cancel or postpone events as directed. Updates will be posted on resort and event websites.
-We will continue following the most updated guidance and precautions from health officials, with attention to the cleanliness and the environment of our facilities.
-We continue to ask our guests and employees to follow public health officials’ guidance of frequent handwashing and to stay home if they are feeling ill. Health officials advise that people at higher risk of severe illness, including those who are 60 years or older, should stay home and away from larger groups of people as much as possible."

There were no group sales allowed and I saw no buses at Sundance. We never went into a lodge so I can't tell you how crowded they were. Sundance looked empty.
We started the day late at Tumbleweed which was ski on. We went up as a double which is how it went all day. Several chairs around us were empty. The snow was softish and already corn like. A run here then over to Carinthia, There was a perhaps 5 deep queue over at the Nitro so we hit Heavy Metal which was basically ski on or a 2-3 group wait. We skied EVERY run available off there and then
braved the upwind side of the Nitro queue which was 3-5 deep.
There were still ski lessons going on. One run a couple 30 something guys behind us asked, hey there's no singles line do you mind if we go up with you. When Mrs Ski it started to explain the social distancing policy they had a puzzled look but just then the two in front of us said no problem. At one point the liftie yelled out Vail's policy of riding with your own parties. I skied Carinthia woods a few times which were awesome then over to Sunbrook. Again basically ski on. We skied all these and Beartrap a couple times which had some nice softish big moguls. Not that I can ski those very well. Others there were.

Then down to the GSE which was 1-3 groups deep, We went into the up wind corral. Looking over the BB it looked to be 2-3 groups deep. We stopped on South Bowl to help a guy who thought he needed a sled as he hurt his knee. Collected his gear and notified the patrol at the next lift shack. By this time the BB was down to a single queue headed in so we joined them. At the curve as people closed in on us Mrs Ski It alertly grabbed several kleenix and suddenly people backed off. We finished the day off here and skied home at 4:10.

It was a great ski day. Ended up doing 20 runs. Soft corn snow, but not too soft anywhere. You could fly. Moguls in the woods, and on Yardsale, Bear Trap & lower Exhibition. I didn't make it to North Face but heard it was good. We can always hit it Sunday. When we got home our daughter texted us the news that Vail had at 1:30 announced they had closed thru 3/22 and reassess. Understandable in the light of reports but Major bummer.

Mar. 15, 2020 - Sun. 0 of 88 trails, 0 of 20 lifts, sunny 20-30F, light to moderate winds , great visibility, machined groomed, spring conditions, corn snow, variable conditions. 0” new in 7 days.
We originally had hoped to celebrate Easter here, but forecasts and the world make it look improbable. I'm doubtful they will even reopen.
The condos were pretty full Saturday. I'm guessing for a number of reasons. Some may have had kids whos schools were closed. It's normally a great weekend to ski. Others may have felt this was one of the last weekends to skis. Others perhaps felt Vermont was safer (I wouldn't have). Some retirees I talked to thought it is safer here. Who knows all their motiviations.
So we decided Sat. night to start packing to move out of the condo which we hadn't planned on. Our daughter drove up Sunday morning to help. It appeared others had the same plan & were packing up Sunday morning.
Later we took a walk up to the main base to clear our locker out. There were number of people moving out of the Grand Summit & people retreiving their skis from the ski check. Every building except the hotel had closed signs and were locked. In front of the rentals there was a sign, RENTALs and piles of skis, boots, poles & snowboards. I assume seasonal rentals being returned? We saw elsewhere a few people hiking to ski & snowshoers despite "Closed no trespassing" signs. A couple teenagers in ski boots asked an employee if he could unlock the door so they could get their gear out of their locker. "NO! You know we locked down because of Covaid-19?" "Umm Yes.." "Okay that being said, go around to the back of the building and the door is open. Get your stuff and out" We followed. There were a couple others in there grabbing gear, we hustled out. The kids grabbed their skis and headed up the hill.
On the ride out we went up to Carinthia. There were a number of people there ignoring the No trepassing signs. Like us. People hiking up with skis, snowboaids, snowshoes. Two went up the half pipe and sledded down 2/3 of it. Man they went fast. I thought one of the them was going to end up in the parking lot but she managed to stop. Oh yeah and fat tire bikes too.

Bye Mt Snow - we hope to be back this year. Our prayers are for everyone.
