Almost forgot the sunset, Crotched has some of the best! As this was the last night for this year, I'll have to hike for any more. I disagree with the decision to go days only for the rest of the month, I would think that 3-9 during the week would bring more business.

Your first quote seems to disprove your second :)
The top of the mountain gets pretty challenging in the evening, especially in the spring.

Many a day in the late spring, the snow starts to firm up as the temps go down after sunset creating dangerous ruts. IMO, closing at 5PM is the right decision.

Ok, I stand corrected. I was thinking that midweek would be better business wise in the evening after people get out of work/school. But this week does look like warmer days and cooler nights, starting on Tuesday.

CM is scheduled to close for the season on Sunday, March 28. While there are bare spots appearing, snow farming allow the grooming equipment to cover the bad spots and as of today, we are100% open (excluding, of course, the Glades).
I suspect there will be weeks of skinning available, although this year, unlike last, I will be doing less skinning and more driving to Killington now that VT is open to those who are fully vaccinated (+ 2-weeks).

Mar. 20, 2021 - Sat.
Skied a lot with Quietman today. Despite the warm weather, Final Frontier and several cuts known as "Remi's Glades" were quite pleasant. There were a half dozen nice turns on the T-Bar liftline, before thesnow ran out and taking the exit to Jupiter's. Quietman gave a shot at the full Dark Star run. He didn't recommend it!
Beyond that, all trails were open with nice surfaces.
Quietman
Had a great day! Great to ski with Joshua, snow never got slushy, trail coverage was still very strong, and the sun was bright. Didn't plan on any glades today, but had to follow Joshua's lead. Dark Star was my own stupidity.
Hope it was not my last lift served of the season, but if it was, what a great way to go.

The mountain is holding up well. Edge to edge on 95% of the trails. Comet may Drop out of play this week with the bare spot just below the top of the double working its way across the top section of the trail.
Magnitude should be the run of the day today with another grooming last night.

The mountain should have no problem making it to our projected closing date of Mar. 28. Probably enough snow to make it a week or two farther if they wanted to do so.

Have you seen the forecast for this week? Brutal... I think the cat operators are going to have to get crafty as it is by the weekend. I don't think another week (or two) would be in the cards.

If it were 38 degrees and fog, I'd worry. Low humidity and cool temps at night: No big deal. Yesterday, the shady surfaces barely softened in the 60 degree weather.

You do realize you're debating a diehard who would
enjoy skiing on some thick rye grass and a good frost ;)

Oh yah haha. Less is best!

That would be only good skiing; not excellent :D

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the rocket?
NELSBEER
They have been waiting on a part that was supposed to be in yesterday (Tuesday) morning. Not sure if it arrived yet, the staff are ready to get the lift up ASAP.
Checking from my deck I see no motion on the line or corral set-up. This delay looks like it belongs on the delivery company & maybe Murphy's Law.
Meanwhile the surfaces are very skiable. Most of the hill is covered with a base created by January's snow/snow making, rain, freeze cycle. The groomer chops this into a frozen corderoy each night. The surface softens through the day but doesn't get sloppy except on the busy corners.
It is definitely t-shirt and sunblock time.

Thank you, daughter has a half day at school. Trying to decide between Sunapee and crotched this afternoon. Sounds like we will get on more afternoon at Crotched and hope the part arrives.
joshua_segal
The part arrived around 4:45PM today - only 30-hours late, courtesy of FedEx. If we assume that they sent the right part, the Rocket should be running at opening (9AM) on Thurs., March 25.

On March 26th, the grooming team did an amazing job to open as much as they did. A lot of stuff was closed where there were narrow paths through or minor turfing required.
Today should be interesting. There was a lot of talk that due to the forecast for Sunday, the 28th, that the 27th would be closing day - but as of now, the web-site is still calling for March 28 as the closing day.
I indicated that I wasn't concerned with the Monday/Tuesday 60+ weather with bright sun and low humidity. I was worried about 38 degrees with fog and we got that twice.
What a lousy way to end the season at CM :-(

Told ya...
