There are a number of Crotched patrollers on here but we get as little information as anybody about what is coming. Volunteering is already fairly costly and the benefits are getting curtailed, push too many buttons and there may be fewer of the friendly bearded characters on the hill.

Sad but so true. Hopefully things are mostly the same this season.

They did some smart snowmaking before Thanksgiving's rain. They didn't try to cover the bare areas, but to just deepen the whales. That's the best way to preserve the snow. The pond looks full so snowmaking can continue as soon as the temp/humidity cooperates.
I took Meteor T2B with some turfing. There is about 250 vertical of continuous snow starting on Lower Meteor from about a football field above where it opens at Tower 4.

Is there more or less turf than last weekend?

Slightly less.

Crotched finally announced the obvious that they won't be open this weekend. On socal media. No expected opening day now, and no mention of the delayed opening on their completely useless website.

I agree that the web site is lacking since the conversion to Vail corp. Crotched is a local mountain, not a Vail resort. Adding a daily update regarding the opening status on the snow report page seems like a no brainer.

The big rains didn't help. The bare spots on Meteor grew to more than I was willing to turf-ski, so I took a half dozen runs on Lower Meteor where there was about 700 linear feet with 160 vertical of continuous snow.
It's better than nothing!

Thanks for these reports, very much appreciated.
I may try for bretton woods Friday. Wish WV and Sunapee would open.

Waterville is supposed to open Friday.

That is certainly going to be a stretch.

Someone walked over the remaining snow when it was really soft which really messed up the surface when it set up. While the 160' of contiguous vertical is still available, there were a couple of choke points. It wasn't that much fun - so I'm done until there is more snow - natural or machine made!

Dec. 6, 2020 - Sun.
Last night's storm dumped 15" to 18" at CM.
Snow guns went on at 10 PM last night and while I can't see from here, they may still be going.
I had 2-wonderful runs in Solstice Glade + one on the corduroy above it. I was exhausted! I will do what I have to do to ski, but I can't wait for the lifts to spin!

What a great base hope it doesn’t melt away.

Dec. 7, 2020 - Mon.
Snow guns continue on Meteor, Galaxy, Lower Magnitude (the park), Satellite Summit, Cosmic Blast and Moonwalk. Opening day is Saturday, Dec. 12.
The snow dried a little with last night's colder temps and the trails/glades without snowmaking improved today (compared with yesterday).
NELSBEER
Crotched will open Saturday morning, as of a few hours ago the reservations system is accepting requests for the weekend and next week.
As of Wednesday the Crotched guns are silent and the ponds are sufficiently dry to deliver 50' more feet of vertical at the base.
The focus of the snowmaking remained on Moonwalk, Satallite Summit, Meteor, Galaxy, Magnitude etal,. Expect the trails that are open to have descent coverage.
Grooming sounds were coming from the upper part of the hill all day as the 🐋🐳 get pushed out. There are currently a few signs at the base CLOSED & NO UPHILL TRAFFIC ⛔, it is not uncommon to keep skiers clear of working groomers.
There are no official uphill traffic rules yet for the actual season.

Congrats Crotched. You got the most snow I've seen from that storm on Sat and deserve to be open.

Breaking news: Bennington, NH man arrested for trespassing while hiking up Crotched Mountain Vail properties to ski glades.
Seriously, thanks for the report Nels

The Boston Globe, in an article dated December 3, 2020 titled, "What to expect on New England’s ski slopes this season of COVID" says:
"Vail Resorts, which owns seven mountains in New England — including Okemo and Stowe in Vermont and Attitash, Wildcat, and Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire ..."
Crotched Mountain is not even mentioned in the article. It appears we are in good company since Mount Snow gets no mention either!
