Last I checked, quarantine is 14 days without a test or 7 days with a negative test (test done at the start of quarantine). It is just as impractical. If you have the ability to stay home for 7 days just to go to VT for a ski trip, you probably could have easily done 14 days as well.
7 days quarantine, and THEN a test. Rationale is that it typically takes 3-7 days to develop the virus (but as long as 14) and thus you need to wait 7 days after your last exposure before getting tested to minimize any false negatives.
My issue is they continue to use "quarantine" which in its literal form is very strict. Meanwhile the CDC and NY State and our school district use "exposure" - and exposure DOES NOT occur if you maintained 6' distance and wore a mask.
In either case its the honor system, but if they focused on exposure more visitors could come to VT without bending/breaking the rules.
Now slatham, please stop using rational thought about this. We all know that everyone must use actual data driven thought about the risk exposure potential and realities! ;)
Heck, In North Dakota (or maybe it was South Dakota, I can't remember right now off the top of my head) the Governor just came out and said that Healthcare workers, who have currently tested positive, but are asymptomatic, can go to work and treat patients, if they're wearing their masks and following proper infection control protocols.
And literally, the guidelines from the CDC that I have on my desk at my office, says that if we find out that a COVID positive patient was in the office, that if we had our masks on and followed the proper infection control protocols, that we are at very low, and most likely no risk of contracting COVID 19.
Honestly, if there could just be more of a push to actually educate people the often basic common sense personal hygiene things they need to do when around other right now (PROPER wearing of a mask including putting it on and taking it off, regular hand sanitation including never touching your mouth if you haven't recently cleaned your hands, and then maintaining some social distancing), you'd more than likely see the new infection rates decrease rapidly.
Then again, we have a tough time convincing literally millions that brushing their teeth twice a day and flossing atleast once a day, is something they should do!! :/
