Vail Stinks 2020/2021

The EPIC reservation system might throw a monkey wrench on some of us every Wed, especially at a busy Mt. Snow

I went on the reservation site at precisely 4:11pm today. (By the way, Mt. Snow was listed on the Vail web site as being able to make reservations for their new estimated opening of 11/20... But then it changed again to TBD - Vail still stinks) Week of reservations open at 2pm MST / 4PM EST each Wed. I had to wait 20 minutes in the waiting room. There were 18K people in front of me. I think they put you in the waiting room so their reservation system doesn't crash.? Not sure, because they were open but I still had to wait my turn. (I did not get right into the res system)

Only Keystone & Breck are online for week of reservations, so this was solely an experiment for me. Once it was my turn at 4:30pm ish, both Breck and Keystone were sold out for the weekend 11/14 & 11/15. Only weekdays Fri 11/13 and 11/16 to 11/20 were avail. It appears week of reservations go Friday to Friday based on the calendar of available days to pick that I saw. Point being - at 4:11 there were 18k people ahead of me for essentially 2 resorts and I still had to go in the virtual waiting room and once I got in at 4:30 weekends were sold out... only after 30 minutes of being open for taking reservations.

I believe there is a concern for Mt. Snow on the busy weekends.

I don't get why so many people are still buying into this. Who out there is thinking, "Wow, this reservation system really work for me?" I can't believe more people haven't refunded their passes.

There will be a concern EVERY weekend at Mount Snow.

Don't worry, Gov. Scott will take care of that when he closes down all the ski areas!

Sounds like a good winter to find something else to do besides skiing.

Agree - I got a plan B - but my plan B is also in VT and that looks to be a problem. My plan B was Bromley. I started this Vail stinks thread for a reason....

Snowshoeing might be a plan c.

So, as a property owner in VT, I'm with Beast Patroller: not good.

It works for me...if they ever open. I downgraded to midweek this season and will mainly ski Crotched and Sunapee. I don't foresee an issue with reservations, and I booked a couple of random days each holiday period that I may or may not cancel. No brainer for $350 and where I live. Obviously this doesn't work for everyone.

A general suggestion: I hear the frustration in everyone's concerns about our ability to enjoy this winter. Different states have different rules/laws and different levels of enforcement of these rules/laws.

This forum is public - and if you are planning on circumventing or breaking these rules/laws, I don't think it is a good idea to advertise it in a public forum.

I would never encourage breaking the law but my point, is even in the news releases from Vermont officials they have said they don't have the resources to enforce and police won't be able to detain out of state drivers.

Yardsale I feel for ya. But I have to thank u for trying the "system" out & reporing back. I decided/gave up to even reserve... since I couldn't find a anywhere near to a reasonable seasonal rental in S Vt this year. :'(

I think you may be correct but there are options. If you paid for your pass by credit card you might be able to contest it with them stressing the circumstances and they may credit your account.

It all seems so intrusive until you or someone you care about gets to the hospital and discover there are no beds. I commend the governors and mayors whom I've heard speak about their efforts to control the pandemic. Lori Lightfoot, Bill DeBlasio, Charlie Baker, Chris Sununu, Phil Scott and Gaven Newsom - all of whom have tried their best to protect the residents of their state or city. COVID-19 is not political and with that in mind, the list I provided above was half R and half D.

I have a lot of friends on FB that are pretty evenly split across the political spectrum. A few weeks ago many of the right winger were posting many of the conspiracy theories about COVID. Then, one of our own and his family got it. He posted from his hospital bed about his struggles to breathe, white cell count and other medical issues.

srtehwht, as they say, got real very quickly. Since then thankfully silence.

Let's look at two states, MA and NH. Both moderate Republican governors, so we can factor that out.

MA has 5x the Population of NH.

Adjusted for population, MA has six times the cases and five times the deaths of NH.

The COVID doesn't care about your politicians or policies.

No, but it is unfortunate that it has become political because it makes fighting it that much more difficult. But when you have a commander in chief who makes fun of people for wearing masks, well, let's just say it shouldn't be a mystery why some folks aren't on board.

With all due respect - I started this thread as a Vail Stinks montage - and you named 6 politicians who have been super over the top during this pandemic, regardless of party. I can go thru each of these politicians issues on the subject, but that would further the spin into toilet. I would rather this thread survive. But I also think that the "keep your comments apolitical" is a bit disingenuous after you named those 6 political figures in a prior post. In my opinion, you "asked for it" and if that gets my thread shut down on Vail, I'd be pretty disappointed.
