Thanks, I'll have to check that out. I'd love to see them do some sort of greatest hits compilation. That is, make a full length film with highlights from most of his films including the early ones to see how technique, gear, and everything else have evolved. They did a little of that in the 2016 film Here, There, and Everywhere.

Somewhere (might have been Roku) I recently saw the 2019 bio/doc film called Ski Bum: The Warren Miller Story. It's quite good and fairly serious in spots because Warren was a globetrotting workaholic and his family life suffered for it.

Things I've learned (or remembered) from watching 1970s Warren Miller films in the last two days:
-It's fun to check out all the old ski gear and clothing on display and it brings back memories of my earliest ski experiences.
-There is a lot of sexist stuff in Warren's narrations that wouldn't fly today, but I admit it's fun when he films some pretty lady skiers in action.
-The music soundtracks generally sucked including a lot of muzak, but occasionally there is a gem of a folk tune.
-Heavyweight athlete (400+lbs) John Truden was a much better skier than President Gerald Ford, although Ford was a solid intermediate-advanced.
-Warren Miller occasionally repeated the same joke or phrase in more than one film, verbatim.
-It's really nostalgic to see fine skiers ripping-up empty inbounds runs at major resorts like Jackson Hole in conditions that look like remote backcountry. Major western resorts are never empty on powder days anymore.
-He also had kind of a fixation on how expensive skiing was and would frequently joke about the high cost of a particular epic run when you factored-in all travel/gear/lessons costs. This surely came from his ski bum days, not to mention being a classic Depression baby born in 1924.
-Warren makes some really disparaging remarks about small ski areas, which are usually the scenes of his obligatory wipeout or lift blunder segments in each film.
-His older films feature more of what I would call "regular people" than the modern films that are dominated by extreme skiers. The older films feature some great skiers including past Olympians, but also many more scenes of average folks partaking in snow sports.
-It's amazing what crazy s--t people would do on skis without a helmet.
-1971's Any Snow Any Mountain has a nice 5-10 minute segment filmed at Snowbird, UT with founder Ted Johnson one year prior to it's opening to the general public.

One conclusion is that the newer films of the last 25 years since Warren's son took over and later with Jonny Moseley and others are better for modern audiences.

Good synopsis ..er.. summary Jim.
I feel there is too much emphasis on extreme skiing now a days. IMHO there should be a rule that they show the landing or lack there of, when they take those crazy jumps.
I've met non-skiers, who after seening that type of footage, seem to think that is what everyday skiing is like.

Anybody watch the Web series, “Working for the Weekend” ? These guys & gals do some crazy ravine, back country skiing in Vermont, NH & Maine. They are short films. They don't name every location probably for a reason. I recognized almost all of them even though I've only skied the upper snowfields.

Does anybody know which Miller film had the Egan brothers jumping out of the tram at Cannon? I had a poster of it back in the day, guessing it was early 90s.

Egan jump from Cannon tram was in 1994 Vertical Reality, here is trailer and it shows a quick shot of a tram jumper:

Unfortunately it does not appear to be one of the many Miller films available without charge on Amazon Prime.

Way back in the 1990’s I ordered some Warren Miller movies on VHS. To my surprise, I discovered that someone I attended high school with in Connecticut, years earlier, worked for them fulfilling orders!

Used to watch all of his movies while eating pizza and drinking beer Friday night at the Depot in E'ville. Have to check that one out again. I think I have "Time Waits for Snowman" on VHS somewhere as well.

Last night we watched Many Moods of Skiing, 1961. I recommend that for some good eastern shots, including Bousquet (which has a few seconds view of the whole ski area which was cool to see), Mt. Snow (and its pool), and Whiteface (and its original double chair). The Mt. Waterman double chairlift is also shown in there which had unique seats.

Agree with the thoughts above. The smaller ski areas of 400' like Boyne are belittled, and he seems amazed that they would have more than 1 chairlift. There is a lot of stuff that wouldn't fly today like the interruptions of the skiing segments for swimsuit modeling. Overall though, it was fun to watch.

I watched it, too. Loved seeing the original Whiteface Riblet double, which I’m thankful to have ridden, as well as the lifts at Bousquet.
