Gore Mountain Ski Reports, 2020-2021

Thanks for the report, it's been a fantastic underrated ski area, and now those chairs are a game changer. The old cut off trail was very narrow, super cool, seldom used, and had a legit uphill portion to reach the midstation. Looks to me like they re-graded quite a bit. Removed the character but improved the overall.

I think the ski area will lift the town. Slowly. North Creek is like North Conway in that it has the railroad, it has the history, it was the destination, and they both can be abbreviated NC. The similarity ends there, full stop. The most action the town has seen was a few years ago when the Tannery Center hosted a standing room only presentation on local ski history. Otherwise they roll up the sidewalks at 4:00 and the tumbleweeds take over.

The family and I will be there for (my) first time over Christmas weekend. I'd love to take Jeremy, or anyone else on the board, up on the offer if they are there 12/25 - 27. I may be there solo on 12/28.

you know when you're hammering northeast in the HOV lane on I-84, and you come upon pops carefully motoring the Buick all the way to the Vernon Center exit. Except this time there's no exit :(

Ski day #4 at Gore today. Trails that have just opened include Cloud, Headwaters, Hawkeye. Also got to ski Twister and Topridge the first time this season.

I thought you would all like to see photos of the new High Peaks Quad. This is a Poma Quad and replaces the old Riblet Double. Yes, the Riblet was a classic, but it was nearing the end of its life, had a safety bar that would hit your helmet on the way down, and didn't go to the summit. This new lift will and will change that side of the ski area dramatically, and allow for a lot of unique, quirky runs as it accesses some of the best glades and narrow trails on the mountain.

I wish I had some time then but unfortunately I'll be working, otherwise I would be happy to show you.

Some tips though - get there early! Like 30 min before they open. Best to get to the upper mountain first as the gondola line can move slow once people show up. Once up there you can enjoy all of Topridge and the Straightbrook Quads. Uncas is a favorite, starts of mellow then ends with a great drop. It has some of the best views of the summit.

Grab an early lunch at the Saddle Lodge (unless you are tailgaiting). The views towards the High Peaks are incredible.

Make sure you check out Tahawus on the North Side, it's one of the best narrower intermediate trails out there with great views of the High Peaks too. Sleeping Bear next to it is also nice.

Quicksilver, off of Sunway, is a another one not to miss, a fun and twisty intermediate.

Question why is Cedars traverse to burnt ridge a Blue? Is that to deter beginner skiers?

I would think so, newer novices have no way down from that chair.

Also stands to reason, you put beginners on that traverse, they are going to have a miserable experience.

They made it 3 times wider and cleared a lot out.

Based on the pictures I've seen and from riding High Peaks, I would say the lift line was doubled in width at most. An unfortunate necessity when not only installing a new lift but certifying it especially going from double to quad. There is more wiggle room with tree encroachments on existing lifts than new. The good news is mother nature works fast.

Also, the previous line was all grown in and that makes it look like they widened even more. The conversion to a quad chair to the top is an awesome addition that should have been done years ago.

Day #5 at Gore today.

Started off with full sun but didn't last long, and then flat light. Good skiing conditions overall on the mountain. A few slick spots on Hawkeye and on the narrow section of Cloud. But otherwise, good packed powder conditions throughout the mountain.

About a 10-15 min max liftline for the Gondola. The trick is to ride this early and get up to Topridge/Straightbrook, then avoid the Gondola until after 130-2, when the lines disappeared. ADK Express had about a 5 min wait, and rest of lifts were ski on.

With the sun I was able to get some better photos of the new lift. The views from it are just incredible towards the High Peaks. I could also easily see Camel's Hump and Mt. Ellen, Killington and Pico Peaks today.

Sadly the last time I was at Gore I rode that gondola. It was around 1994. Ugh....

I havent been to gore in about 8 years having medically retired out of the army I don't get out as much as I use too. Gore was my first Gondola ride too! Such a cool experience. I remembered getting to the midstation and we kept going. The couple my father and I were riding with said its quite a ways more. My first big mountain experience. good memories. Thanks for sharing Jer 👍
