JimK Weird question, but you guys are good at weird :p Do you find skiing to be hard on your fingernails? Maybe this is just a personal thing, but every time I go into a period of intense skiing, particularly in colder weather, my fingernails tend to get really beat up, chipped, etc. I guess it's from things like messing with boot buckles without gloves on or doing other fine motor actions in the cold with windshield wipers and other metalic objects. I also used to get black toenails from aggressive skiing in sloppy boots, but that's another subject.

yardsale My nails crack more in the winter as well. Those cracks from tip to cuticle can hurt. I always figured it was a dry air thing.
