Since those three Ohio ski areas are pretty close together, one would think they could have pooled the staff to get at least one of the hills open for Christmas-New Years. But I guess they must have been worried about overcrowding.

Are you thinking over crowding in respect to Covid, or overcrowding in respect to poor skiing experience? Because I spent half the summer working in Ohio this year and as far as could tell nobody there could care less about Covid.

Even when they are not busy, BM/BW can seem crowded....very, very small areas.

I hear nothing but horror stories from friends who are skiing Epic and Ikon pass resorts, west and east. As for me, I'm not having those experiences because I've stuck to skiing Cannon and other independent ski areas.

All those who have advocated for Cannon's privatization over the years must be really apoplectic that Cannon has the highest number of open runs in NH. Isn't that a travesty? If only Cannon had been privatized, there would be none of that "waste" and Cannon skiers could instead be enjoying the Tuckerbrook lift exclusively (and maybe the Eagle Cliff triple as well), as everything else at Cannon would be shut down like at most other Vail Resorts ski areas.

A friend was with his family at Breckenridge during the Christmas break and said it was shocking how much terrain was closed. And it wasn't because of a lack of snow.

Snow Creek located just north of Kansas City, MO will now be operating only 3 days a week for a total of 20 hours, less than 1/3 of the hours they announced earlier. This is a day and night skiing/tubing operation located a half hour from Kansas City. Snow Creek was one of 17 resorts purchased in Vail's 2019 acquisition of Peak Resorts.

3 days a week? That's a joke. Even most nonprofit ski areas operate more than that. They should at least be open in the evenings for the after school crowd.

Another thing that's missing from a "Vail" resort is that hometown-local feel to the it. Hunter used to have events like the chef's, police and firefighters ski races. (The latter of which I personally participated in). None of these are listed on their site anymore since the vail acquisition.

Hunter was always a big supporter of first responders. They even had a special discount card for them.

I think perhaps the most damning things from that article are the fact the company has $1.5B cash on hand with record pass sales, and they are stiffing their instructors at the main mountain from promised annual pay raises, and an instructor says working there is “like having a front-row seat watching Vail burn from the inside.”

It is very telling indeed. You can tell almost all you need to by how a company treats their employees. This includes (or especially includes) the employees that are lowest on the totem pole.

One webcam working....shows a lift running and people skiing. Looks nice but can't see much
