The reality is that even the furthest of the free parking at Mount Snow, is both walkable (less than a half mile) and closer than many ski areas have some of their parking facilities if one is looking at things objectively.
While I agree that (less than a 1/2 mile is "walkable" that's a freakin' hike, Jeff. So, if you have a family or come with a few buddies, you're talking about waiting in line (a super long one no doubt) to drop off you're equipment, etc., then wait in a slow moving line of cars up to one of the parking lots, finding a spot and then walking back almost a 1/2 mile. Then, you first have to start to deal with the baselodge. Or, of course, you can walk the almost 1/2 mile in your ski boots. Or like you said wait for the shuttle bus. I suppose, changing at the car and taking the shuttle bus would be the fastest and easiest way as long as they run enough timely buses during peak times.
Either way, to me, a 1/2 mile is a freaking hike in the morning to get to a lift...at least to me.
