On the Mt Sneaux thing it could be a more basic explanation. One of my ski buddies upgraded the something for the whatever web phone system interconnectivity something at his job, and it rendered all of their cameras incompatible. Now he's pulling out miles of coax and getting new cameras, which don't use wires -- the pixels will fly through air and go to clouds and such.
I'm no apologist for Vail but based on the age and technology of those webcams, I wouldn't be surprised if they're just obsolete.
Maybe, but it's suspicious that so many cams across their New England resorts went offline in the same timeframe.
