On day 1 of our Quebec trip, we sought out the deepest snow in the region at Mont Orignal. Mont Orignal is a medium-sized area with lots of glades and steep terrain, as is usual for the region. It is also a noteworthy ski area because it is home to the first six-pack in North America.
Today they were running both the six-pack and the platter pull. All of the trails were open, except for the hike-to terrain at the very summit. The snow coverage was excellent and deep, with a nice topping of powder on top of the base. Everything skied well, but the extensive glades were especially fun, as were the two very steep double blacks. The mountain was fairly busy, as it was the end of Quebec school break, and there was usually a line of a few minutes to get on the chair. However, the six-pack kept people moving up the mountain well, and we never waited long. The trails were also rarely crowded due to the many options available from the summit.
I found Orignal to be the perfect size for a day of exploring the trails and woods without getting bored. On top of the amazing skiing, full priced lift tickets are only $52 CAD, which is an amazing value. Of course we had to get some poutine with our lunch in the lodge, which was also surprisingly affordable. Tomorrow we are likely off to Owl's Head, which is the one ski area on this trip which I have visited before.
