Sunday River 4/17/2022

I skied what was likely my last day of the season at Sunday River today. They still had quite a bit open across White Cap, Barker, and Spruce. It was a strange weather day, alternating between sun and intense snow squalls. It was warm enough so that most areas softened up nicely, but nothing got too slushy or messy. While some trails, such as Tempest and Bim's Whim, had very thin cover with some walking (or grass skiing) required in areas, there were still a lot of trails with impressive wall-to-wall coverage. Although it will be closing after tomorrow, White Heat likely had the most snow on it with 4-8 feet or so of depth in most places. It wasn't very busy and there were no lines all day. Next weekend will be their last of the season with operations condensed to just Barker. It was a great day to close out the season for me!

Looking good, thanks for the report. Tentatively planning to go next Sunday for closing day, which is free for anyone looking for late season turns.

Wow, snow looks interesting...looks like they'll be good next weekend, but it will be interesting. You picked a good time to go with 3 peaks still going. I'm planning on attending next Sunday as well. The condition of White Heat duly noted in the event we want to hike a bit.

Many of the runs off Barker still had wall-to-wall cover, so they should be good for next weekend. I figured it was worth paying this weekend to get more terrain and less crowds.

This has been discussed ad nauseum here, but the lack of crowds even at SR on a weekend are indicative are why the spring thing is not everyone's game.
