Right, most of us who are extreme enthusiasts are able to make the per day cost reasonable. But only by skiing a lot! And that doesn't change the fact that the overall cost is still pretty high. That's not representative of people who are casual skiers or people who want to just check out the sport for the first time. For those people the per day cost is prohibitive. Not everyone has $1,000 and 55 days to spare.
I think someone made this analogy recently on a different thread of snow journal... If you fly your private jet everyday the per day cost starts to get significantly lower. But that doesn't mean private jets are cheap or an affordable option for most people.
