Yes, for sure, they CAN run all day. But not always, especially on cold days. And of course, if you use your phone as, say, a phone, rather than a dedicated lift ticket, they die even quicker (anyone with a large family on the hill knows this issue).
So I'd be interested in the back-up plan when the phone is dead?
And it would be client friendly - improve the "Experience" for some - to leave an old fashion plastic pass as an option.
Guessing in one sense, if one's phone died during the day, it wouldn't be that much different than if say one's pass broke off of their coat and then they go down to the ticket office and get a new pass/ticket issued - been there, done that over the years for sure.
Personally I like how Vail, and any resort using RFID style passes and scanners now does it. Put your pass in a pocket, and as long as your phone isn't over it, the scanner works and all is good
