ciscokid The lake view thread got me thinking, have we ever had a thread on ski areas on an island? ( lost or open) This area must have had some good views , Mackinac island Mi. What other ski areas are/ were on an island?
joshua_segal Like all threads of this type, how big is an Island? Technically, both all NZ and Australia areas are on islands! Assuming someone will summarize this thread, there were three ski areas on Long Island, NY: Bethpage, Farmingdale; Oyster Bay; and Queens. If any of you remember "The Fountain Mountain" at Mount Snow, late in the season as it started to melt away, a moat sometimes formed around it, technically making it an island, but to include this one, would be a stretch! There are ski areas in Newfoundland, Canada.
lotsoskiing How about "Islands that are not countries" or this will go sideways like the "body of water" one did. Cape Smokey, NS comes to mind.
conrad Most of the time Australia is considered a continent and not an island. But there is a ski area on Tasmania I think. There are still other "big" islands with ski areas. Britain, Newfoundland, Iceland, Greenland, Sakhalin Oblast (Russia), multiple islands in the country of Japan...I think Corsica, Sicily, and Cypress may also have or have had a small number of ski areas. Possibly Crimea, but would have to check. We could expand it further if you include indoor and grass ski areas. But right, I don't think that was the original intent of the thread.

conrad joshua_segal;c-56902 wroteNova Scotia is not an island. True. But the portion with Cape Smokey and Ski Ben Eoin is! Cape Breton Island.

rickbolger I might suggest a sidebar "smallest island with a ski area" would be a fun exercise, thinking the one on Mackinac will be hard to beat! Did not know there was ever one there, thanks Cisco! great photo

conrad The island of Montreal used to have at least two ski areas: https://www.remontees-mecaniques.net/bdd/site-montreal-818.html
NELSAP Can we count any of the areas in RI? They are ski areas on an "island", in this case, Rhode Island. :)
