Sorry, not sorry that I was so offended after posting the positives of a resurrected volunteer run ski area and it got dumped on.

I was lucky enough to go there after a powder day in 2003 or so and quite enjoyed it. Echoing what others said, their detachable quad was pretty pointless: It wasn't much faster than their fixed grip triple and didn't get much higher either and I recall it was thin cover up top.

Their terrain was super fun though. Kinda reminded me of an old-school feel like MRG or Smuggs but not quite as challenging. Lots of little drops 3-5' mixed in among their terrain and woods that were nicely spaced out.

The old man's skin is easy to get under for sure. I strive to do it at all times.

Also I am surprised by his comment crapping a $20 daypass to Ascutney. People pay that to do uphill only these days. Also I remember the old man taking me to who knows where and putting more than request $5-10 into the jar.

Ascutney was a fun mountain when there was decent snow. They left quite a bit ungroomed after storms so it was my go to spot for uncrowded powder runs on weekends. Great fall line trails and fun, rutted catwalks to get to the far side. A surprising amount of European tours would go there. The HSQ ran at half speed to save power. The trails would ice up more than those at mountains along the Green Mountain spine though. The snowmaking was poor as others aaid- one time they blew ice mist along the liftline that froze on the bottom of your skis, so at the top there was a large number of skiers scraping ice off or just lying in the snow...
