Most remote ski Runs

I was thinking about something today as I was driving the boring Thruway. What is a trail that made you feel like you were in the middle of nowhere... I remember the Juggernaut trail at Killington and how far away you were from the mountain as you meandered through the high-elevation pine forest. What are some other remote trails that seem to take you away from the main mountain? Another example is Gore mountains Tannery trail (no longer skiable).

Sometimes on the Thruway I'm so bored I forget where I am. Did I pass Saugerties? Did I pass Poughkeepsie? The decaying green bunker looking building south of Kingston has been a reliable landmark since I was a little kid.

Of trails still open, patrolled etc. the one that comes to mind first for me is East Bowl at Burke

There's one at Saddleback too but I haven't been on it, too cold to run that lift whenever I was there so didn't venture out there. I think it's called Muleskinner or something like that

Edit: on the trail map the adjacent area is shown as a glade, so not sure this one counts?

Another ski run I've been on is Coyote Loop at wolf creek. It was way out the map doesn't do it justice.

There are a few that stand out to me.

Saint John & Lower Penobscot at Big Squaw. Lower Penobscot feels especially isolated because it goes past the abandoned lift and lodge.

Saint Odilon at Mont Orignal also feels very remote and it also goes past an abandoned lift near its bottom.

Saco at BMOM feels isolated due to the topography of the mountain, and you have to hike to get to it.

Lower FIS at Sugarbush Mt Ellen. It's not that far out on the map, but it feels remote/removed.

Yeah that's a good one. Lower Antelope at MRG is similar. Angel Food glades and subsequent walkout at Stowe also feels pretty remote. This is a fun topic. I've done Muleskinner at Saddleback and it's a very cool trail. I'll have to give this topic some more thought and see if I can grab some relevant photos.

The Wilmington Trail at Whiteface is all by itself on that area of the mountain.

Good thread. Since the opening of the Casablanca Glades, I'm not sure that Muleskinner at Saddleback still qualifies.

But I think some of the stuff in Red Rock Basin at Ragged might qualify, notably, Easy Winder.

Beast Patroller

Big Dipper on SUNBROOK at Mount Snow. It's really not that far away from the other trails but once you drop into it you don't see (or hear) anything until it blends into Little Dipper.

Especially back in the day before Mittersill reopened. I think it was around 1997-8 when myself and 2 friends skied over the saddle and down into Mittersill. We had read about it in a Ski Magazine article that had it as one of the "Top 10 Extreme Skiing" spots in the US and we made it our goal to get in there during our February school vacation trip that winter. There was nothing too extreme about the trails we came down other than about 2 feet of mostly untracked powder. We came down the old lift line and a trail to skiers right so I don't think we came down the trail that was called out in the article but we were still pretty proud of ourselves and enjoyed the experience. It was very eerie and isolated once we starting to cross the saddle. Seeing the then abandoned ski area and old lift still standing is a great memory. I just searched and could not find any trace of that old article online but would love to reread it.

I would add Roper Road at Wachusett if you hit it on a weekday. Often times you are the only person out there and can't hear people on nearby trails. Also great views of the Boston skyline if you look East near the stone hut on a clear day.

Bearcub at Killington (Fallsbrook on the map above) to get down to Sunrise is pretty remote and long and in the middle of nowhere.

The crosscut from the West Mountain midstation back to the Bucksaw area at Sugarloaf. Almost a mile of flat poling through the woods.

That video was basically all Smuggs'. Birthday Bowls, Doc's, Upper Liftline, Freefall, Black Hole, Robin's Run, maybe Shakedown or Bermuda woods. At the end they do duck behind the upper terminal of Sterling Lift and traverse the pond to the trail. Nice video that showcases what Smuggs' offers.
