I just got an Indy pass for the first time and was wondering since no card has shown up or anything how do you use it?
trackbiker
Just show your drivers license or some other form of ID.
rickbolger
You may already be aware of this -- some places require reservations, some recommend reservations, some nickel and dime for pass cards or what have you.
These are not nuisances if you know what to expect, so it is advisable to look at the resort's website in advance and see what they say about Indy.
skizilla
Show id at box office then they sell you RFID card where applicable? Do they then load both days or is it show the card each time and license?
trackbiker
IIRC you have to show your ID and reload the card each time you go. I think they divide the revenue according to how may days Indy Card holders ski at each resort and that is how they track it.

Not trying to make more out of it than it is. The Indy pass is really a good deal. I only used it five times last year and it was still well worth it. I think Trackbiker got his rate down to something like 50 cents per ticket ;)

Actually, I got it down to $22.18/ticket. I never did the math before. Used it 13 times and I hope to use it even more this year now that Montage is on it. And the pass was even at a lower cost this year with the discount for return buyers. :)

Not mentioned, always check for blackout dates before going, unless you got the Indy plus. Some resorts, like Cannon have lots of blackout dates, others none.
Jonni
Yes, everyone above is correct. You have to show your ID each time at the ticket window to redeem a day from your Indy Pass. As others have said above, you do need to be cognizant of blackout dates and reservations. Indy+ does not have any blackout dates that I know of (there is maybe the exception of Mt Hood Meadows or Powder Mountain - both out west, but unsure).
Literally, I usually just walk up to the ticket window, and say, "I would like to redeem an Indy Pass ticket," and the ticket seller will know what to do then. This is what you do for every redemption.
Most do ask for ID to verify it with. If you have an existing RFID card for ski areas that use them, the ticket can usually be reloaded onto it at the window. If you don't have the card, then the ski area will give you another one and charge you for it if that's their policy. For places like Cannon, who require a prior reservation for Indy Pass tickets. You can show them a printout of the receipt or show it on your phone.
Most ski areas also post on their websites instructions on how to redeem an Indy Pass ticket when you arrive if it's not the standard way of doing it as outlined above. Lots of times, this will be on the Lift Tickets page or Seasons Pass page.

Cannon did not require reservations for Indy Pass use last year (though you could for peace of mind). Are they requiring reservations this year?

Peek n Peak and Tussey (near State College PA) along with a couple nordie places just added to Indy Pass

I Was looking at the black out dates chart green i assume means an open date or does it? Its is a little weird looking for the base pass. Should have gotten the plus
naturalsnow
The green dates are Sundays that are blacked out at certain resorts (looks as if there are 7 that fall into that category). Basically, if the date is white, it is open at all resorts, but if it is any other color, you need to look down below to see whether the one you want to go to is blacked out that day.

Wish I checked better before buying little complicated especially for weekend skiers

I have heard from a couple people that realized this after the fact and reached out to upgrade and that Indy has honored the price it would have been to upgrade at the time they originally bought the pass.

Cannon capped skier visits during the last few years years. Not sure if they will continue this practice this year or not. Pre-booking ensured you would get a ticket (in case they sold out).

It’s not that complicated. If I can figure it out you can.
As stated above, just check the area’s site well in advance or email them well in advance if you still have questions.
For ex. Powder Mtn required reservations IIRC 5 days in advance. They also required to take a pic the 1st day. Neither are the norm but the others using res. are often capping the # of Indy redeems per day and perhaps total tickets. Nobody I recall loaded 2 days even with res. Some areas change their res. policy during the season. No res. required early & late season, but res. needed haute season.
The Beast, Waterville, Powder & Pomerelle charged $5 for RFID. Tamarack was free.
Most let us pick up other peoples tickets with their ID.
Cancellation policies vary. Powder was 10 days in advance. Again the oddball. Pats you are supposed to bring a print out of the cancellation to redeem but they let us reserve, then cancel online, then redeem w/o print out in person all in the same day! Of course it had been pouring and no one was there.
All said and done I skied 12 Indy days and saved $787 list. Meaning it cost under $35 per day.
See?? Simple!!!!
Really it’s not hard. Just plan ahead. If you have any questions PM Conrad, he's the expert. He was probably down to 25 cents a day last season! ;) ;) :D :D

Just got an Indy for Christmas! Super stoked to check out a lot of places I’ve never been to. Vermont I have covered as Barnard (S6) home area. Maine is the most intriguing for me. I’m def going to plan Saddleback and I’d like to check out Black. Thinking of checking out both those in March as our band in up at Sugarloaf . A lot of cool options and frankly, a little overwhelmed. In a good way. Any suggesting are welcomed on how to maximize my days,

Black, NH on a powder day can't be best!
