Bromont, Quebec
January 16, 2023
Weather conditions: Cloudy, some flurries, spots of freezing drizzle
Ski stats: 21 runs, 19.1 miles, 19500' vertical
We headed farther north on January 16 up to Bromont in Quebec, our third visit to the area in the last decade. We were staying at my in-laws in Newport, VT, and the ride was 70 min. Crossing the border was quick, the slow part was getting off the highway for the last 2 miles to the ski area, which was all stop and go traffic. When we finally arrive (20 min to go 2 miles), it wasn't like the ski area was jammed pack, so the excessive traffic may just be due to traffic lights.
We had prepurchased our tickets online, so it was a quick scan at the ticket kiosk and off we went. Came out to $71 US after taxes and the dreaded credit card "foreign transaction fee".
If you haven't been to Bromont, it's one of the largest areas in Quebec, with one of the largest night skiing networks and snowmaking systems. More than 50 trails were open on all sides of the mountain - and there are a lot of sides here, as trails and lifts encircle almost the entire mountain. They were cranking out snow on the back side, Versant du Midi and Versant du Cote Ouest.
The front/original side of the mountain (Versant du Village) is steep, fall line skiing served by a chondola and fixed quad, and has the most vertical, just under 1200'. A smaller area off the front, Mont Soleil, serves shorter beginner and intermediate terrain.

What's also unique about Bromont is that many of their trails are named after U.S. cities. Not something I would have expected at a ski area in Quebec. For instance, here's a pic of Plattsburgh. They also have trails like Albany, Burlington, Cincinatti, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc.
Next year, they plan to replace the quad on Versant de Epinettes, with a HSQ. This chair used to operate at the lost Mont Joye, Quebec, where we skied once. It is going to Mont Riguad next.
Midpoint of the lift.
We had lunch at the summit lodge. Nice selection of wraps, salads, soups, and coffee. $37 US for two sandwiches, 2 beers, chips, cup of soup, chips. which wasn't too expensive at all. Here's the view from the summit.
I checked out the back side of the mountain, which only had 1 trail, Miami, that was open, which was a fun cruiser.
The Versant du Cote Ouest double was also operating. This double used to operate at Le Massif.
And another plus to this mountain is they do an afternoon groom, to freshen up the surface for all their night skiers. I haven't seen an afternoon groom since I skied at Wachusett and Gunstock. Here are the groomers on Knowlton.
Overall, a really nice day of skiing. Max lift line was 5 min for the Chondola. There's a lot of terrain here to cover in a day. There's plenty of steeps, glades, cruisers, etc. Beginner trails from all lifts as well.
