Today we skied Mont Sutton for the first time. Unfortunately, the conditions weren't great, with a couple inches of powder/packed powder on top of boilerplate ice. The mountain was very busy, and most trails were quickly scraped off. Chairs 2 & 4 usually had lines of a few minutes long, but the other lifts usually had minimal to no lines. Chairs 1, 2 West, 2, 3, 4, & 7 were open today, 3 of which are classic center pole lattice tower Mueller doubles. There were only a few trails that were closed, and most terrain had good cover, although there were some bare spots showing, especially on the lower parts of the mountain.
Sutton is a large and fun mountain with quite a wide variety of terrain. It's a great place for lift buffs to visit, as it is basically a living Mueller museum with their 6 center pole doubles. Many of their trails are semi-gladed, which makes them more interesting. The upper mountain has some extremely steep terrain, some of which they rate as "triple blacks." No matter what your thoughts are on the somewhat gimmicky trail rating, they are legitimately challenging terrain with drops, chutes, and mini-couloirs. Despite the less than ideal conditions, we had a great time and didn't cover anywhere close to the entire mountain. Hopefully we'll eventually be back to ski the rest!
