I looked through Liftblog for Thiokols; the WI 'wrong state' saved some time. As an Ohioan I knew of small ares that were close to each other (BM/BW) and these two, so I found the Thiokols at MRM and googled Clear Fork, as I knew it used to operate. Found a pic of the center pole lift and base lodge/logo, and there you have it! Fun exercise on a rainy and smokey day!

Hey that’s cool you’re a former Ohioan, I have gained respect for the Buckeyes! Last year Hocking Hills and the week the Amish of Holmes county.
Amazing how the topography changes east of Mansfield.

I too spent time in OH, and must say that (IMO) Ohio's best is Mad River (last skied in 1983 - long before both Peak Resorts and Vail.)

Amazing that Clear Fork still looks good and that the Riblet center-pole quad could be ready to handle passengers when the season starts. Great pics, Ciscokid!

Ohioan, yes, Buckeye, no. Lifetime UMich fan through deep family ties, though not a Harbaugh fan.

We were in the Cleveland SKi Club and I skied their hill (Big Creek) a lot. Fun place with decent pitch.

Hocking Hills is a fantastic place, unknown and underrated gem!

That place is a labor of love. Wonder if they're still able to run their old Roebling t-bar. When I last saw it some years ago it looked a little janky, especially the drive terminal and the condition of the haul rope.

I hope so. The place is really fun, with enough variety to keep it interesting. Zot was a hoot and a rite of passage for this young buck

I would think Perfect would be near the top( was there 4-5 yrs back
I must have gone right by that mad river last year on the way down to Hocking Hills through Columbus. Unfortunately I missed that one.

From what I can tell the ski area per se ( Clear Fork)has been closed about 5 yrs or so but not sure. If this adventure thing and bar grill was open you would think they’d have the gate open.

Snow trails was building the parking lot bigger, had more new snow makers ready, had a graduation party in one of the lodges and looked like a nice clean little area.
Mohican state park is big on canoes/ kayaks. The nearby Amish is the highest population (Holmes county) in the country ( more than Lancaster Pa)

The one thing that bothers me is why ibrake has not done trip reports from these two areas, Mad River Jr, and Perfect lol!

Cisco, thanks for triggering what might be our most extensive discussion of skiing and other attractions in the Buckeye State. Definitely a +1 to you and rickbolger for your good words about the Hocking Hills.

For 5 great years I lived in Columbus - 2 rounds of grad school at Ohio State (the first when another Woody was the head football coach). As a New Englander I thought I was moving to Cow Country and, yes, Ohio has plenty of cows. But Ohio has also done a great job of protecting and promoting its state parks, historic sites, and natural areas.

Nice to see those pics of the sandstone cliffs and labyrinths at Hocking Hills and the ski runs at Snow Trails - the only Ohio ski area I can say that I’ve skied.

Does anybody know about the connection of the Tappan family (as in Tappan kitchen appliances) to Ohio skiing? I think that the connection was to Clear Fork.

My wife's family lives near Jackson. I'm pretty sure I've stopped at Snow Trail and had thought about visiting Hocking Hill in the past. I'll definitely put it on our itinerary on our next Ohio visit. Haven't made the trip since BC - Before Covid.
