Ah, the Crotched lodge: lovely in its unlovliness but incredibly practical and well laid out.

I haven’t seen it announced anywhere, but staff has been called in with a presumed opening date of December 1.
Quietman
It is official on Facebook, opening day is Friday the 1st with the rocket spinning. Open trails will be announced Thursday. Sunapee also announced they will open on Thursday with top to bottom coverage.

Nice. Have a blast this season Crotchedy folks!
NELSBEER
Looks like there will be the usual 2 top to bottom routes.
Easier: Moonwalk to Galaxy to lower Meteor.
Harder: Satalite Summit to Magnitude (the Park normally) to bottom.
They cross so you can mix up parts.
The Meteor trail is ready but it's sometimes usurped by the racing program. Otherwise open.
The carpet learning area is ready as well.
The base lodge has a somewhat improved ambiance this year. As part of Vail's carbon reduction effort all the lights were upgraded to LED's. The main dining room now has much more subdued lighting & other areas look cleaner.
Word is they are going to be trying for new hill lights in next year's budget.
Pond is down but refreshing well, they'll be able to work on more trails quickly.
Snowmaking shutdown Thursday dawn.
Final push out time!

I like this aerial shot from Crotched social media. Gives an idea of what may open.

It is wonderful living slopeside!
If you really see my house, you've got a good imagination!

Crotched looks ready for tomorrow's (friday) opening.
In addition to pushing out all the snow wales into corduroy some small park features were added on Magnitude (the usual park trail). Lights are off tonight so they feel ready.
Weekday crowds at other ski areas have been light, so come on out and enjoy the snow before the weekend.

December 1, 2023 - Friday
Opening day was excellent. The trail count was 7 of 25 (including the Launch Pad beginner area as 1-trail).
There were two runs from the top of Rocket and 3 T2Bs from the top of the Valley Chair. The trails were full width and the snow was as deep as I've ever seen it in the early season.
The crowd was light and the rain held off until after closing.
There is what appears to be a 5-day snow-making window starting next Wednesday, which should be long enough to open the West Side of the hill by the weekend of Dec. 9.

This was the earliest in the season that I've skied in at least 20 years, and the coverage was great on the open trails and the snow was soft and fun. My plan is to work less and ski more this winter, and today was a great start!

I forgot to mention that over the course of the day I skied with quietman, chuckstah and nelsber: a good representation of SJ at CM!

December 2, 2023 - Saturday
CM is reporting 8 of 25 runs - which is accurate in that all 8 are distinct trails.
In fact there a 4-distinct T2B trails associated with a pod.
Off the Rocket:
- Satellite Summit to Cosmic Blast to Galaxy.
- Satellite Summit to Upper Magnitude to Lower Magnitude.
- Moonwalk to Meteor
Off the Carpet:
- Launch Pad
Trails were all well covered with a nice spring surface.

I noticed that this morning, nice to see it snowing hard at the summit, and snow mixing in at the base.

Webcams off line now. Did they loose power again?

as of 4:50pm, it looks like all of Vail east have no web cam access via each website. Mt. Snow, Okemo, Sunapee, Stowe ect are all down.
