Chuckstah Snowmaking to begin October first. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to cover a slope.
ciscokid Oh those were the days, nothing but rooster tailing rear drive guzzling behemoths and not a single boarder sitting on their butt. No high speed quads or 8 packs, no problem. Who needs a season pass?
obienick While they've never shown the "box", they've had several pics of two tubes. So I'm assuming they're using the L60 model. 11.1 gpm using 139 kW. This equates to 12.5 days non-stop just to make an acre-foot of snow. There's got to be a reason why the only player that uses this is Ober Gatlinburg, and only on their tubing operation...
shpride Per their Facebook they have begun snowmaking with an expected opening date of 11/1. They showed a video of the “box” this time and obienick you were right it’s an L60.
skelley19 I drove by today and there is one pretty large pile. I will pull into the lot and get a pic next time I drive by but I would estimate the one current pile is about 12 feet tall.
ADKskier keep making a bigger and bigger pile then groom it out, colder temps on the way later this week/end so it'll be easier to stockpile.
skelley19 Looks like they started pushing out the pile. I'll try to grab some pics when I drive by this wknd.

It seems to be generally agreed that they are first to open in the US.
Chuckstah Definitely first. Friend messaged me around noon about opening. Almost went, but trying to get my stuff together on no notice, and an hour plus drive, chose not to go. If they're open next Sunday I'm in. Saturday is a rail jam, not for this old guy. Great job getting open. I'm sure they kept it quiet to not be overwhelmed.
skelley19 I wish I knew, I would have taken the 8 minute drive over and taken a couple turns. I didn't find out about until the evening.
Chuckstah Yesterday, Nov first was the first day of daily operations for their fall season. Lessons only with advanced commitment I believe.
