Gore Mountain Apr 20, 2024
Apr 6 was going to be my last ski day of the season, but I couldn't resist one final day yesterday. The weather was cool with some sun. Gore had to patch up some of the trails to repair/connect them, but they managed to get 18 trails open, which was impressive considering the recent meltdown.
Only the upper mountain was open. One could ride the gondola, and then ski Ruby Run or Fairview, and then to the High Peaks Quad or down to the North Quad. From the top of High Peaks, you could ski down Headwaters or Open Pit to the Straightbrook Quad or down Tannery to Top Ridge. To get the bottom, you had to ride the gondola down. This is relatively rare at Gore to ride the gondola down during ski season. Most late season ski days there is a run to the bottom, but honestly I preferred riding the gondola down. Heavy, wet, slushy snow and mud just isn't enjoyable for me for 2 miles.
Hardly anybody was there...maybe 100-150 at most. I got to park in the front row, even though I arrived at 810. The lodge was nearly empty:
Sleeping Bear on North was good, excellent views as always:
Hullaballoo was well covered
A view from the steeper part of Cloud
Upper Cloud was rather narrow
Headwaters
Hawkeye had bare spots but was mostly covered
View down Hawkeye
Riding down the gondola
Finally, upon exiting the gondola, a group of Teletubbies was boarding:
Managed 16 days at Gore this year. Season lasted for me from Nov. 25 through Apr. 20. Can't wait to the 2024-2025 season with the Ski Bowl improvements!
