Longest surface lift you've ever ridden

While not longest by any measure, I remember the Bateau T-Bar at Sugarloaf and the old summit T-Bars at Cannon as being especially hard to negotiate because of being very steep (Bateau) or fast (Cannon).

Not long but the T-Bar at Eagelbrook School in Deerfield MA was steeeppp. It's a double now.

I'm pretty sure the left-hand Upper T-bar at Cannon is the fastest fixed-grip lift I've ever ridden (other than aerial tramways). I was annoyed when it was replaced with Cannonball Quad because the new lift was so much slower.

Other extended ones have been Bateau at Sugarloaf, Cupsuptic and Kennebago at Saddleback, and Snow Pocket at Snow Ridge, NY.

No, but they hosted Tri State races when I was in that in the early 90s.

I remember crashing on the Cannon summit T maybe 40 years ago, not sure which one. I believe it was the first and only time I failed riding a surface lift, but maybe not. took out my ski buddy as well, he wasn't thrilled. 🤷‍♂️

Garnish Germany when I was in the army in the late seventies. Glacier at the top has a T-bar that is 1300’ vertical. I skied it as late as May. A great Olympic ski area. I can proudly say I made it to three Oktober fests in Munich.

For me it was not the longest, but the most terrifying: From my ski coaching days: The now-removed first drag lift at the WC venue at Podkoren in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. Steep, icy, and I had to ride it with a gaggle of impatient European coaches behind me, with a bundle of gates on my shoulder. Thankfully I made it up with no issues but I was in full focus mode... Now, going down the same slope after training with same bundle of gates...THAT was terrifying.

I haven't been in almost 30 years (man am I old) but I think it was the Celebrity Ridge lift (It may actually be a poma lift not a T-bar, but hey, its still surface) that took my breath away. It is on top of the continental divide and provides just incredibly stunning views. It is short, but the views!

When I picked up an Okemo brochure at Besse-Clarke men's clothing store in Pittsfield MA, I decided then and there that I just had to ride that lift! The pomas were well-spaced, and I remember how quiet the ride was - just the whisper of the snow against your skis. It was a cold day and nice to be out of the wind for that 6000-foot ride.

The best thing about a surface lift is getting out of the wind and a platter pull is the most comfortable to ride … for a skier. Let the snowboarders freeze in the wind.
